The lady and I are eating on Friday at the restaurant on the Brooklyn Bridge. River Walk Cafe? Is that the name? Thoughts?

River Cafe.  Very good choice.  Great view of Manhattan -- a friend of mine is getting married in the neighboring park this summer because of the romantic view.

You'll be right between DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights.  DUMBO is a bunch of converted factories -- lots of really great artsy stuff to do during the day, but not so much at night.  In Brooklyn Heights, there's a very nice promenade along the river, and also lots of beautiful historic houses.  Also, some bars and restaurants, mainly on Henry Street and Montague Street.

Have fun guys!  I am leaving for vacation myself tomorrow, so don't break the city while I'm gone.

Thanks! One more question. What do you think about getting there from the Theater District? If we take the sub, we'd have to walk about 10-15 minutes from the drop off point. Would it be safe to walk around 11 pm after dinner?

Cab is about 20 bucks each way...

The best train for you is the 2/3 to Clark Street.  From there it's a very nice walk through a very nice residential neighborhood, until the last couple of blocks.  Those are kind of industrial.  It's completely safe, but I don't know what your urban comfort level is.

When you get off the subway, you will be at Clark and Henry.  From there, basically you walk west towards the river/Manhattan skyline and turn right.  Pretty easy.

The simplest way is to walk 3 1/2 blocks west on Clark from the subway, to the Promenade, where you get an amazing view of the downtown skyline.  Turn right and mosey north on the Promenade until it ends, when it turns into a normal street -- Columbia Heights.  Keep heading in the same direction along Columbia Heights (about 3 blocks) until you get to Old Fulton Street, where the River Cafe is located directly on your left.  Everything up until those last 3 blocks will be absolutely gorgeous.

Also, when you get out of the subway, if you walk north on Henry instead, you will find some pubs and an indie movie theater.  If you happen to walk that way to the River Cafe, you should turn left on Cranberry Street after three blocks and follow that west to Columbia Heights.  Then, you'll turn right and go about 3 blocks to Old Fulton Street.

It's a total yuppie neighborhood, so I think you'll feel safe.

Ghost of Stan Parrish = elite.

Had a great time in NYC, other than the fact that the lady and I sat on a Delta flight from LGA to MCI for an hour and a half because the pilot didn't have the proper 'paperwork'. But that's for another day.

What a great city. Arrived on Thursday about noon and we walked around town the whole day. Had dinner at Big John's Pizzeria off Bleecker. Not great, not bad. I was expecting more out of NYC pizza. Lunch was at the Carnegie deli. Sandwiches the size of Deon Murphy's head.  :lick:

Had beers at the Chelsea Brewery on Thursday night. Great view of the Hudson looking across. Thursday was the only day we saw any celebs. Saw Alicia Silverstone, Donovan McNabb ( :ksu:) , Beyonce, and Michael Strahan.

Did the whole Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island deal on Friday. That was OK. I guess we had to do it if we were there. Walked around the WTC area and had breakfast at Cafe Ferrera in Little Italy. GSP, your advice on the transportation to River Cafe was absolutely top notch. Such a great view of Manhattan at night. River Cafe was great, but awfully expensive  :yikes:. Went to the Bubble Lounge in Tribeca after for some drinks. Great bar.

Empire State Building on Saturday morning. Not normally scared of heights, but for some reason I got a little  :ku: up there. Shopped and had drinks at Sardi's before going to the Phantom of the Opera. Not a big theater guy, but the show was great. Walked back to the hotel from there. WTF are thousands of people doing walking the streets at 2 am? People of all ages, too. I was amazed.

Did the other sight seeing stuff too on Sunday before leaving. Good times were had by all. Quick, ask me questions so I can answer about NYC since I'm an expert now!!

    The very best.
how would you compare the city to manhattan, ks.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Oh, and I forgot to add something.

I think I saw Weird Robert there. Dead serious. Walking outside of Radio City Music Hall during the draft and some dude passes us wearing an EMAW hat. The lady turns and asks me if I saw the guy wearing a K-State hat. I turned and looked and I only caught him from the back, but I swear to you it was him. Unless Steve Dave decided to stay an extra day and he looks real ugly :dunno:.

Just got back in the office from my own week-long vacation, and I'm really glad you have a good time in NYC.  Damn, I love this city myself.  And just to dispel a rumor, although I have to give a foam-finger salute to Weird Robert's sense of style, it wasn't me you saw in midtown...

No, not me.  I'm fantastic looking as opposed to smelly looking.  Also, flew out the day before.  New stadium was really nice.  Still very clean so that was huge in sd's book.
