Assuming that Snyder coaches around 5 years.

I would say at least 1 or 2 Big 12 title game appearance(s). But that's just an IMO.

Nothing.

Fixed.

For your future mental health.
I'm telling you, this is not ANYTHING like the team from the beginning of conference play. You will see no more blowouts like what happened in OOC.  If we lose, it will not because these kids gave up, and it will be at the buzzer. -Rodless, before 97-70

I'm gonna start with "stop sucking", then just build from there.

I see a return to "not sucking" on the horizon.  Perhaps a "beat all four cupcakes in the non-con and go .500 in conference, putting us in a mediocre bowl" is also in the non-too-distant future?

You do realize it took ten (10) years for Snyder to build from 1989 to 1998, right?  With an all-star staff including Bob Stoops, Mangino, Leavitt and Bullet Bob Cope (my man).  The program is not quite as buried now as it was in 1989 (but not for lack of Prince trying) and the North doesn't have the national championship teams of the old Big Eight.  But still, NO WAY we get to 2 conference championships in the next 5 years.  That is simply delusional.  Wildly delusional.  (Starting with programs in similar condition, it took Pinkel 7 years to post a winning record in conference and it took Mangino 6 years to post a winning record in conference.)

Assuming Snyder still has the skills he did 10 years ago, here's what's going to happen for the next five years: 4 wins in 2009, 7 wins in 2010, 8 wins in 2011, 9 wins in 2012, and 8 wins in 2013.

I consider the above to be a raging success based on the current state of the program.  But, more important is recruiting, where we have to be (have to be) in the top 35-40 for the next 4 years.  I think we can do that.  Then, Snyder can retire with the program in much better shape for whoever follows.

IMHO.

Except I didn't say that's horrible, I said it's a raging success given the state of the program.

Agree.  Athough this year's conference schedule is more friendly than last years.  But the two years following this season will be possible as it is always better with UT, Baylor, and OSU on the schedule from the South

Real question is how good of a coach will Vic be when Snyder retires. Snyder can (this does not mean will) turn this program around, and I do believe it will be in better shape than he found it (not hard). If we see the cotton bowl again under Snyder (assuming 5 years) I'd call it a raging success.

If he turns it around quickly, we might need to pull the HCIW card and added pay just to keep Vic as I'm sure he'll be getting a lot of the credit and outsiders may try to sweep him away.  However, if it's just better shape than he found it....then I pray that Vic is the answer if that's who the keys are handed to. :impatient:  Wish I had a time machine.

In all honesty OBz has a pretty good chance of success considering the shape of the Big 12 North. I am not predicting success - but the caliber of competition as we all know is - well, bad.

6-6 is an optimistic scenario for 2009.
Then, the time bomb that was Ron's recruiting "strategy" will kick in.  The upper classes which are the strength of every team will need to be replenished with heavy doses of jucos....at least for several years.  If you look at recruiting rankings for the '06, '07 and '08 seasons, KSU compares reasonably well with the other major contenders in the North...however, almost half of those classes were jucos, and truth be told, most of the "star talent" which got those rankings were jucos.  So, not only do you have heavier than normal attrition out of the upper classes, you also have heavier than normal talent attrition.  The whole question of Coach Snyder's chance to be respectable [forget about appearances in ccg's] will be how many talented jucos he can bring in to staunch the bleeding of upper class talent.  If anyone can do it, it's Coach Snyder, but the last time he was building the program he was cherry picking juco talent, and now he is competing with all his major competitors.
He is an old man trying to push a big rock up a steep hill.

Does it have to be a real north title, or can it be the kind where you don't actually win but still hang a banner?

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.
