    The very best.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Oh, HOLY HELL, I only saw one of the 10...11 (?!) articles on Patterson and thought that was all.  They wrote an expose eight chapters long?!  Someone really hates Deb Patterson.  This is absurd.  Jeez.

Someone?  It sounds more like damn near everyone that actually has to work with her.

Except for Melissa Ethridge.

It's about as damming of a story as you could get, hell they even threw in NCAA violations at the end of it.  The only thing missing was a "Dave Bliss-esque" recorded conversation.

So for Deb Patterson, does MCMW = more christians more wins?

According to Patterson this violation (laptop for Koehne) has already been self reported to the NCAA and isn't a big deal.

But Weiser says he doesn't know anything about it?  Wouldn't the AD hear about something like this?  Something is fishy.

You can't be racist and like basketball.

“Our relationship when they were recruiting me … I thought it was fine,” said Wecker, a 2005 consensus All-American and Big 12 player of the year who now plays in the WNBA. “That’s a big part of why I went there. … But if I would have felt six years ago what I feel now, there’s no way in the world that I would have gone there.”

I probably won't read past that...but wow.

That's a pretty ringing endorsement for the coach that the AD just agreed to give a 5 year extension to.

You DO realize that roughly 1/3 of NCAA-level and above female athletes are gay, right?  It's not exactly uncommon.

    THE b IS NOT CAPITALIZED
So she flies out three managers on christmas day having already purchased three tickets a week earlier to fly them back home the day after Christmas. Pre-planned period.
I'm telling you, this is not ANYTHING like the team from the beginning of conference play. You will see no more blowouts like what happened in OOC.  If we lose, it will not because these kids gave up, and it will be at the buzzer. -Rodless, before 97-70

I read through those 'chapters' out of sheer boredom.

Weiser is a dumbass if he extended her contract knowing all that.

Said Lew Perkins after signing Mangino to a $1.5m a year contract (1-16) with pending NCAA sanctions hanging over his football program.

Reading all of this you'd think that HCDP is either nuts or just plain evil or some combination of the two. Wow!

By the way, let me point out that I think DP and Co. should be canned ASAP.

“Was their job dependent on doing those courtesies and errands for the staff? Absolutely not,” Ethridge said. “Did they do things? Absolutely. Do players do things for one another? Do coaches do things for each other? Do people do things for each other in the course of a very people-oriented environment? Absolutely. Is it required? No.

“We had relationships with these kids. They did a lot of great things. They also needed to do what our entire staff asked them to do.”

HOLY CRAP.  And that's just the assistant coach.  As for Deb, well...I think her actions speak for themselves.

When I started hearing about Jim Jones ... I mean Deb's attempt to create a cult 3 or 4 years ago, and then read how the team stopped to "save a puppy" on the way to an NCAA tourny game, I knew things were way screwed up in the women's basketball program.    Plus, don't get me started on the "fans" who only support women's basketball and don't support the programs that make women's basketball possible ... considering that at KSU, women's hoops losses nearly $1 million dollars a year.

Let's see.  Deb Patterson bought a laptop for a graduating player.  I wonder if that's the same thing, or nearly the same thing, as when Roy agreed to small cash gifts to graduating players.  That turned out to be against NCAA rules.  I believe a certain number of KSU fans blitzed our boards calling us a dirty program because we were paying players.  I'm sure, however, that Patterson didn't have any idea that buying a laptop for a graduating player was wrong, or against NCAA rules because the whole Roy thing was not widely known.

This explains the timing of the contract extension:

Patterson answered all the questions I had. I also spoke to athletic director Tim Weiser on more than one occasion. K-State knew the nature of the story I was doing. There was nothing in it that I had not asked them about.

This past Wednesday, I called Weiser to ask some additional questions about a couple of issues I'd come across in continued reporting and that would result in a sidebar to the main story. I left a message in which I also told him that all this would run Sunday, Oct. 1.

Friday morning, Weiser returned a call and said he would check into the issues I asked about and get back to me later in the day. He asked why the story was running this weekend. I explained that I'd first filed it in August and this was the kind of piece that needed a lot of time in the editing process. I was out of town a lot during August and early September covering golf and the WNBA.

Then the principle editor went through it very carefully. Other editors also looked it over. We worked it into shape. And the story was very lengthy, so we needed to run it at a time we had enough space in the paper. All of that added up to Oct. 1.

Roughly six hours after my conversation with Weiser, K-State sent out a release that Patterson had agreed in principle to a new five-year contract. As of early Sunday morning, I'd yet to hear from Weiser again.

What the squawk doesn't understand is that Roy knowingly told ku boosters it was okay for them to buy gifts and give money to ku players.

He also didn't report to the NCAA either ... it took his departure and another AD to catch ku boosters STILL sending gifts and such to players with a new head coach ... clearly the practice was ongoing and covered many years.

I was extremely suspicious of the Patterson regime when the article about her Chrisitanity pushing came out.

Coupled with the strange 'family' atmosphere at games, the 'Big Four' (all-white) and the article I just read it makes alot more sense why the get so much support from the local community.  It is an entire program sustaining itself on my Mike Sweeny Theory (with accompanying Marc Dunn/Allen Evridge corollary).

Women's basketball is not worth getting sanctioned over.

Kietz just now:  "The last thing you want is a women's sport leading the NCAA to your door."

I wonder who brought this up to him.

So, DP purchases return tickets a week in advance for the three athletic trainers, flies them to Philadelphia on Christmas day, which some might consider the holiest Christian holiday of the year, fires them all that night in her hotel room, and sends them home the day after Christmas to be greeted by an athletic department reprensative at the airport for a pre-arranged pick up.

Call me crazy, but something about that doesn't sound too Christian to me.
