Trey Hillman really didnt do anything wrong.  Farnsworth has been a setup guy all along and thats what they got him to do, he just missed location and a good solid hitter made him pay.  Game numero uno, guys just relax.

Chins up, Big Blue Nation!

That's whats great about baseball, there's always next game!  Plus there's plenty of room for error in the cushy AL central.

Of the last 10 World Series winners, only 3 have put up a W on opening day.  If we want to win it all, we had to throw this one.

Well than picking up Farnsworth for huge money and refusing to pull him when he is wild was perfect way to throw it.

Come on man he wasnt wild, he just struck out arguably their best hitter in Quitten.  There was no refusal, the guy missed a location.  I guess you dont understand the role of a setup guy.  Regardless this shouldn't have been and issue if guys could manufacture runs and not strand 9 of them.  I'm just letting you know as a guy that has had some experience as a coach, Trey did what was standard operating procedure man.  Only other thing is he could have brought in Cruz instead but it is the first game of the year, and this might change future set-up situations.

Everyone knows baseball is a game of class and old money. If we want wins we must stop grabbing guys from crap towns.

In a way they tried to do this with the draft so they didnt have to go out and buy bats, which would in turn keep our relief pitchers we had aquired of the years (nunez, and ramirez) but people like billy butler havent panned out and some of the other draft picks are in their own worlds.

I did wonder why we put that douche in.  Then after the first guy got on base, I knew we were going to lose.  Turned off my espn gamecast, went home, told my roommate that we lost.  He asked by how much, I told him I didn't know.  Looked at espn, saw we lost.  We had a great pitcher, who pitched well, we had a good reliever who we didn't play, and an amazing closer, who didn't get to see the field, because we gave up the W before he could even get in.  I like Hillman, but that was a dumb decision to put in that retard.  He didn't even play good ever, why would they think he'd be a good pitcher in Kansas City?

All Rise... The Judge is in the house.
Farnsworth's ERA has been over 4.00 for the past 2 seasons for a reason... he is not the kind of relief pitcher you put into a game that is that close at that point of the game... Juan Cruz has had an ERA in the low 2.00's the past couple of seasons at Arizona... he is a much more liable option in this spot than Farnsworth. If Hillman makes this choice again soon and fails again I may just have to say Hillman may not be the right man for the job after all..

Well, yeah it blew up in his face but it is just the first game.  Relax, breathe, and everything will be fine.

Thanks Skipper, but if you think letting Farnsworth pitch to Thome in that situation was a good (or even defensible) move then it is pretty clear why you are no longer in coaching.

Mahay should have been pitching to Thome, but we shouldn't have left 11 runners on base, or we wouldn't have been in that position in the first place.

I gotta laugh at some of your reactions though. If we had won, some of you would have said that we're lucky, or "man, win one game, and you think you're World Champs".

But we lose, and it's like the world has ended.
Might want to pace your meltdown.
You got 161 games left.

That has been EXACTLY my point.  It's done.  Pack it in and don't criticize Tracy because it doesn't matter.

    I may be full of sh*t, but i won't be de-turd.
Starting pitching does awesome, only for our bullpen to lose it.....sounds familiar.

Considering the coaching was done with a summer league team I am happy to be out of it, but nonetheless its not like trey left meche in to long.  Mayhay isn't a lefty specialist anyway, so the only other option was Cruz, but the pay farnsworth to be the setup guy.  Relax mr negative!

Does anyone else watch the game tracker thing on kcroyals.com? It's so :ohno: when the little circle is blue and you know they got a hit but you have to wait like 2 minutes to find out what happend.  I threw a pencil at the wall after Thome's homer.

pencil

seriously

was it at least mechanical?

no.   :frown: Worst part is that the huge removable eraser on the end flew off when it hit the wall and I can't find it.

thereby destroying the only remaining advantage of the pencil over the pen...sad  :frown:

Our chances aren't all that great tonight either.

Greinke has a horrible history at Comiskey. I remember a game last year where he gave up like 8 hits in a row. Of course, Chicago's lineup isn't as potent this year, but we had better put up some runs against Floyd or else we'll be 0-2.
