Are we talking financial matters?  I won't pretend to know what these guys' contracts mean in the scheme of things, but...BB has already shown everything he needs to at the plate.  No point in sending him to Omaha to "learn" how to play first.  The guy is a professional hitter, not a glovesman.  Get used to it.  Shealy is a decent fill-in, nothing more.  Jacobs is a legit 40/100 dude, with a big contract, he'll definitely be the Royal's 1B for the next few. And KK is a converted C, in the middle of getting fistfranked because of the Jacobs signing and the logjam that already existed at 1B/DH.  All in all, having too much talent is not a bad problem to have; bit of a change of pace for Royal's fans.  That said, BB gets the nod at DH for the start of the season, and KK gets the middle of the season call up.  (unless KK does what he did at the end of last year (AAA) during spring training, then reverse those two.)

Butler needs to learn how to play in the field, plain and simple. He is more valuable if he can prove to be an everyday 1B. How could we call up KK if we have Jacobs, Butler, Shealy, and Gload already in KC? Then a few years down the line we have Hosmer who will be a 1B/DH. We can't keep that many 1B/DH on our 25 man roster. Two of them will have to be moved and I'd bet Butler and Shealy will be the guys. I don't get why people are so high on Butler. His numbers last season weren't much better than Ross Gload's.

Bros, call me crazy (you're crazy sd!) but I think the boys in blue can get to .500 (or MORE) this season.  Dunno, maybe it's this long NE winter getting to me, but I think we get it done.  Thoughts?

Should be a given this year. Here's to the powder blues!!!! :beerchug: :dancin:

Butler is not ever going to be anything more than a mediocre defensive first baseman.  His poor footwork at the plate isn't any better on the field.  Jacobs is better there, which is why he will get the majority of starts at that position, with Gload or Butler getting the occasional start.  I'd be very surprised if Shealy even makes the opening day roster, barring an unbelievable Spring.

Shealy closed the year well and if has a decent spring, I don't see why they don't give him 20 games to show himself. I just want him gone and the best way to show him off is at the pro level. I was hoping we'd move Butler this off season. I'm tired of this log jam or mediocre players with no power at first. At least we got Jacobs. He's an obvious upgrade over anyone we had playing 1B last year.

The best part about that is every season we get to speculate on which loser can reach that stupidly low number....and none ever do

Steve German has a shot this year if he gets the playing time. TPJ could smack 25+ if he didnt concentrate so much on his defense.

"Bye Bye" Balboni.

Some people forget he hit the single in game 6 before Dane Iorg's game winning hit to bring home Sundberg.

Considering the year that happened I can honestly say I never knew to begin with.

There is a reason no one has ever hit more than 36 home runs for the Royals, and it isn't because they have sucked for the last decade and a half.  Guys like Jacobs will always see their worth drop in KC because they are built to pop balls over short porches.

Surprisingly, Kauffman is a little bit worse of a hitter's park than Dolphin Stadium. You also have to factor in weather (it's colder in KC during the early months).

In other news, Hudson signed with the Dodgers. http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090220&content_id=3855982&vkey=news_la&fext=.jsp&c_id=la

Of course resigning Mark Teahen was more important than getting Hudson.  :Dontwannahearu:

Quote from: some Royals blog
More importantlly, did you realize that the left-handed hitting Jacobs played in a home park the last three years that was 345 feet down the right field line?  That's 15 feet further than Kaufmann.   In addition (and yes, I am aware that the fence falls away from 330 feet in a hurry), Dolphins Stadium was 385 feet to right-center (5 feet less than Kaufmann) and essentially an identical 410 feet to dead center.

If nothing else, Jacobs will not step to the plate for the first time next April and think the fence is any farther away than usual.

Weather aside the park shouldn't affect his HR number.

You never know about sight issues and hitting.  Andres Gallaraga was crapty until a doctor finally realized he was right eye dominant.  Next thing you know, he's hitting .370.  Not saying TPJ will do anything like that, but being able to see better should at least help.  Plus, maybe now he can field a ground ball?

Actually I dont think we are. We play a game in Texas against the Rangers then we fly to Chicago to open the season.
