Overall the team has been much better prepared, and playing with a lot more confidence (except for everyone but Clemente at crunch time yesterday), great job of coaching by Frank for recovering from a $hit coaching job to start the conference season.
And LOL at the Martinites who are falling all over themselves trying to deny this reality.
QFT
As a reformed Martinite (I know see the harsh light of reality that dax has shown upon the high school coach who doesn't have the first clue out there, and has pretty much lucked his way into his 3 big 12 wins so far ) I think I can help bridge the gap between the two camps.
You see we normal people (non-Martinites) can see how inconsistent a coach Frank is. Just over a week ago his teams were clearly not prepared for Big 12 play. This is 100% due to poor in week coaching. The team did not buy into Frank's gameplans and insane substitution patterns. Its obvious when a team realizes they have incompetent coaching staff. We could not even depend a simple pick and roll from Baylor. Sure we Frank tried to run some high school zone schemes out there to control the penetration, but the players knew they wouldn't work.
Sometime in the last week or so, someone must have shown Frank some rudimentary coaching techniques. (LOL at Frank reading a book.) Besides just yelling at players and stomping his boots (will he get a hat to match [Prince anyone?]) he must have started teaching them something as well for the first time in his tenure here at Kansas State. I bet if you sat in on practices now and before the Nebraska game you would see huge fundamental differences in what drills they run and how they practice offensive sets (as if you could call what we ran before an offense!). Let's just hope that Frank doesn't revert back to his old bad habits of running shoddy practices, and keeps listening to whoever could bring Frank Martin from not having an effing clue on how to get this team prepared to play any semblance of Big 12 basketball to winning a road game against a top 15 team IN LESS THAN TWO WEEKS.
In fact I think we should just find the guy who is obviously tutoring Frank and hire him.
I will save the Martinites the time and give you your reply:
Blah Blah Blah, you can't just "learn" how to be a good coach in two weeks.
Blah Blah Blah, the team does not have upper tier Big 12 talent.
Blah Blah Blah, Doc (for you sd and sys)!
As dax said: Its a shame Frank did not care enough about this team to get them prepared for the first four games of the conference season. He did a garbage job of coaching (even he admitted it!) and that's why he enlisted the help of some basketball 'X and O' savant. I just wonder who it is?
