All Rise... The Judge is in the house.
Shortstop Willie Bloomquist. Formally played for the Seattle Mariners. Here is the Bio...

Not the type of player I was expecting. Not that great of a player but could probably be a pretty good person to share time with Callaspo instead of sending Pena Jr. out there again. This all but ensures Aviles to be moved to 2nd base finally.

So we have two TPJs now? Why didn't we go after David Eckstein or Orlando Hudson? Surely we could've gotten them for a decent price.

Yeah upon looking deeper into this signing it reminds me of the type of player the last Royals GM would bring in as a "splash" free agent.

I don't see Bloomquist as being a full time starter and if that is the case we are screwed at SS. I still think Callaspo (or however you spell his name) should get his shot at earning the starting job. The kid can play he just hasn't had the chance to show it on a daily basis because the used him like every 6 or 7 games last season.

Baird brought in some better "splash" free agents than this (Chuck Knoblauch, Juan Gonzalez, etc).

Bloomquist will be our everyday ss. Why would we sign another backup middle infielder? He'll start at short and Aviles will move to 2b.

Change of plans... It looks like they want Bloomquist to play 2nd base... As long as he is solid I can handle Aviles at short for a whole season. He showed last season he could play the position pretty solid for 3/4 of a season so let's see what what he can do in a full season.

Did you really think for a second that Aviles wouldn't be starting somewhere? He got the Player of the Year award for the Royals!   :powertard:

Yeah. I've seen the Royals handle players before in the past though.
