Me like.  Nationally respected, Texas ties, loyal to KSU and Snyder.
Now I want Long.

Coach Snyder has an embarrasment of riches of former players.   He need to use them for recruiting and position coaches.

My money is firmly on Rusty for the longest meltdown.  Figure FFF will just implode.

    shame on you, non-believers
While we're discussing our supposed front-runners for the coordinator spots who also happen to be utter losers:

"Chuck Long's tenure at SDSU was not success, as head coach, his Aztecs teams went 9-27 in three seasons. He was fired on November 23, 2008, less than 24 hours after the Aztecs finished the worst season in school history."

I realize that you're a moron, but even you should be smart enough to know that he, or a similar loser, will be head coach in waiting.

He's right though.  The guy was just short of mediocre at SMU.  I'd rather find a guy we could get as HCIW like Venables who hasn't had a chance to fail, than get a Dimel or Bennett and hope one of them doesn't fail again.  It would be easier to sell to recruits.

Come on, Az.  One of these coordinators will get the job.

Well, I have to agree.  Based on Phil's record at SMU, it is totally insane that K-State is hiring him as HC.

Edit - I've just discovered that, contrary to many posters, Phil is NOT going to be HC.  He'll be the defensive coordinator, which, as the name implies, is responsible for defense.  Now, I know that Phil's got some big shoes to fill after the last three years, but I think he can do it.

Anybody re-watch the 2000 KSU v NU game?  Did you see Bennett on the sideline?  Yeah, that was fun.  We had a pretty good defense that year, as I recall...
COMPLIANCE:  This post is more than "a line or two" and not just a "clever link to right-wing blogs" and, therefore, fully complies with PCR's stringent posting requirements.

Why would he accept the DC position?

His current position is much, much better.

What a fracking disaster.  I am amazed at the incompetence of the AD.  KSU football is done.  They had a few good years, but it was more than likely a fluke that great players wanted to come to manhattan.  Who is going to come play for an old man and a bunch of proven loser coordinators?  Can someone email Weefer and Krause and make sure they know it isn't 1989?  :flush:

exactly, if this is, I don't know...the winter of '99 and we name Bennett as the DC, then I'm cool with it.  But it's 2008, and whomever we name on this staff has a high likelihood of being the head coach designate, so if you surround yourself with coordinators who were losers as head coaches, then how am I supposed to be elated that those losers have the potential to take over KSU?

he hasn't had a top 5 defense since he was at KSU (with, basically, players he didn't recruit).  He's a fantastic coach when he doesn't have to recruit the players.  You want to know what Phil's defense will look like with no talent?  We just saw it the past two years.

I suggest firing Bill, hiring BV as head coach, and letting him pick one.

Bennett did have a strong defense when he was here 10 years ago.  The question you have to ask yourselves (and I;m just playing devil's advocate here) is can his DOD style defense handle the spread offenses?

a quote from Stan this morning, and I'm not even making this up:

Quote from: Stanbot
you let the cream rist to the top.  Brooks Barta is a HS coach, but if he was on the staff for a few years, maybe he gets to the point where he can take over.
