A high-impact bat at a corner position. They’d love to add two, actually. This dwarfs every other priority.

An innings-eating starter who can be a reliable No. 3 behind Meche and Greinke. If Brian Bannister rebounds or Kyle Davies and/or Luke Hochevar emerge — so much the better.

A proven, productive middle infielder. Aviles’ emergence makes this less of a need while also allowing versatility. The Royals would prefer to get a shortstop and move Aviles to second, but he has played well enough at short to make it possible to pursue a second baseman instead.

Another veteran in the bullpen. This falls into the it-would-be-nice category. The back of the Royals’ bullpen, when healthy, has been as good as any unit in the league.

More Questions:

1. What do we do with Jose Guillen?

A. Get rid of him for whatever you can get in return
B. Eat some of the contract to get some value for him in return

I choose B but it sounds like he's staying

2. Arbitration (14 players)

John Bale, Brian Bannister, John Buck, Kyle Davies, Brandon Duckworth, Joey Gathright, Esteban German, Jimmy Gobble, Zach Greinke, Luke Hudson, Miguel Olivo, Joel Peralta, Jason Smith and Mark Teahen.

(the ones in bold are the ones that have the most question marks surrounding them)

3. The 40 man roster

4. Free Agents

Mark Teixeira?
Bobby Abreu?
Pat Burrell?
Raul Ibañez?
Rafael Furcal?
Orlando Hudson?
Juan Rivera?
José Vidro?

5. Trades

Teahen, Gathright, German and Gobble could be traded for sure. Could Jeff Francoeur be a possibility because of his ties to GMDM? Alex Gordon or Billy Butler could be traded but I doubt it.

According to a scout.....

“If they want to make an impact trade,” the scout said, “they’re going to have to give up something. That means Greinke or Soria or, to a lesser extent, DeJesus. That’s it.

“Meche and Guillen have big contracts. That makes it tough. Otherwise, they’ve got a lot of maybe/might-be guys. Those guys don’t bring much in return.”

you couldn't get a bag of balls for those guys. your not gonna get anything better than you give up. I would have no problem seeing Grienke go, or Butler. Would hate to get rid of Soria though, the only problem is, if you dont have good starting pitching and bullpen to get to Soria hes of no value throwing every 5th day. If this team could turn the corner he would be a huge asset.

need some power in the line up.  other than that i think they are primed and ready to make a deep run into the playoffs next season.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

QFT. Give me like Adam Dunn or somebody. Burrell would be cool.

All Rise... The Judge is in the house.
I'd have to say Pat Burrell and Jeff Francour are the 2 players the royals could likely be aiming at in the early period. I look for the to push hard to Pat Burrell and then a middle rotation type of pitcher. Reading some articles here in KC it sounds like there could be quite a lot of new faces on the roster to blend in with the players that are contributing. I think this team is heading in the right direction and it's only going to get better.

anyone think we could use the atlanta-kansas city pipeline to pull a trade for chipper jones?  i personally don't see why not.  he could be the missing piece of the puzzle that this team needs.

That would be sweet. I just don't see Chipper Jones playing anywhere but Atlanta for the rest of his career though. (Unless Atlanta turns into a Royals type organization that struggles year in and year out)

I agree with ya there. I think Hillman is the right man for the job because he can get a lot out of his players. We could be looking at something special in the making. I think once this team figures it out we won't be one of those 1 year wonders... This team is building to become a dynasty and I think we are only a few years away from beginning that dynasty. :woot:

dumb question:  anyone see Alex Rodriquez leaving the Yanks and coming to KC?  The NY fans are just terrible to him, I bet he'd jump at the chance to get out of that pothole and play in a town who treats him the way he deserves to be treated?

sorry to keep beating this drum guys- just a huge Royals fan who wants the best for our boys in blue...

ARod will never leave New York... He will be there until he retires. Plus we couldn't afford him. I don't know if you were serious or not with that question but there are my serious opinions.

QFT. When I went to the Yanks and Royals game all the Yank fans were so nice to Jeter and so mean to A-Rod.

I work for the royals in their minor league player development and there are rumblings about shooting for both CC and Texiera.  Right now in AZ the front office is here having meetings trying to get things ready for next year!

If we pulled in CC that would make us a contender immediately! IMO

agreed, kinda got all excited about hearing that.  I know that the team will be very different.  I think trading dudes like Billy Butler, Dan Cortes (minor leaguer), and possibly Soria we could get some good dudes.  I think it would be somewhat easy to find a replacement for soria.  I gotta think thats where CC and Texiera come in.

Why would we trade Soria after we signed him to an extension this year? We could try him as a starter and sign a new closer. If it fails, we move Soria back to closer and we end up with a nice set up man.

What do you think we could get for Butler in a trade?

Maybe a high to mid level prospect. Some dudes are high on him, others not so much.

I personally didn't think Butler's value is too high. He isn't a proven fielder, so only American League teams would be interested in him at this point. Maybe we could package him with a young pitcher and pick up a MLB-ready corner outfielder (Jeff Francoeur?). We also need a middle infielder.

If you trade Billy you could get a good solid everyday guy in the big leagues.  Rumors now are that Dayton and Furcal's previous relationship in Atlanta are in our favor to get him here.  We would move Aviles to 2nd and there is a solid middle infield.  3rd covered with gordons breakout year ( :blindfold:) and trading butler is the answer to 1st base.  Second option is moving gordon to 1st and aviles to 3rd which he played in omaha.  There are options.  Outfield is next.  Dayton for sure wants a big bat and a starting pitcher.  Im still holding out of a CC type guy!

I dont know what you have previously heard but we were ONE and a half million dollars away from getting Torri Hunter last year.  The Angles offered more so we didnt get him obviously.  We ended up getting Guillen so that was at least a move forward.  You dont have to believe anything but things are already in works.

Guillen is a piece of sh1t.

Dude sucks.

Performance wise, we got what we expected. Guillen has never been the big bat on any team like he is here. He's a good 5 or 6 guy in the line up, not a 3 or 4.

You can't be surprised by his attitude. There's a reason why he's been with nine different teams in twelve seasons.

I would love to have Furcal, but would Orlando Hudson be a better option? He has similar numbers and will come at a cheaper price. Spending less on him would allow us to use that extra money on a big bat or a #1 or 2 starter. Do you think the Royals will make a push to outbid the Yankees for Cookie Cookie? He's looking for close to 25 million a year. We could get AJ burnett and Ryan Dempster for close to that. Having both of them would give us a solid 1-4, imo.

i'm well aware of that, that is what i'm talking about. the royals don't throw enough money at people to come to KC, so they settle for FP TC etc like Guillen with sub par numbers.

i wouldn't be surprised to hear that the royals went after CC but was a little short on $ so they will pick up another Tomko type SP off the scrap pile.
