http://www.kansascity.com/sports/story/817022.htmlA high-impact bat at a corner position. They’d love to add two, actually. This dwarfs every other priority.
An innings-eating starter who can be a reliable No. 3 behind Meche and Greinke. If Brian Bannister rebounds or Kyle Davies and/or Luke Hochevar emerge — so much the better.
A proven, productive middle infielder. Aviles’ emergence makes this less of a need while also allowing versatility. The Royals would prefer to get a shortstop and move Aviles to second, but he has played well enough at short to make it possible to pursue a second baseman instead.
Another veteran in the bullpen. This falls into the it-would-be-nice category. The back of the Royals’ bullpen, when healthy, has been as good as any unit in the league.
More Questions:
1. What do we do with Jose Guillen?
A. Get rid of him for whatever you can get in return
B. Eat some of the contract to get some value for him in return
I choose B but it sounds like he's staying
2. Arbitration (14 players)
John Bale, Brian Bannister,
John Buck, Kyle Davies, Brandon Duckworth, Joey Gathright, Esteban German,
Jimmy Gobble, Zach Greinke, Luke Hudson,
Miguel Olivo, Joel Peralta, Jason Smith and
Mark Teahen.
(the ones in bold are the ones that have the most question marks surrounding them)
3. The 40 man roster
4. Free Agents
Mark Teixeira?
Bobby Abreu?
Pat Burrell?
Raul Ibañez?
Rafael Furcal?
Orlando Hudson?
Juan Rivera?
José Vidro?
5. Trades
Teahen, Gathright, German and Gobble could be traded for sure. Could Jeff Francoeur be a possibility because of his ties to GMDM? Alex Gordon or Billy Butler could be traded but I doubt it.
According to a scout.....
“If they want to make an impact trade,” the scout said, “they’re going to have to give up something. That means Greinke or Soria or, to a lesser extent, DeJesus. That’s it.
“Meche and Guillen have big contracts. That makes it tough. Otherwise, they’ve got a lot of maybe/might-be guys. Those guys don’t bring much in return.”
