    The very best.
J/W, what is your favorite example of Frank's genius X's and O's?

Mine has to be "the play" he called vs ku when we led 55-45. You can see him calm down the offense and call a play. Pullen drives, attracts 3 hawks and he dishes it off to beasley for the slam. You can see Pullen then look at Frank, while Frank points back at J-Pul kind of like, "Yeah, that was my play call. You are nothing w/o my genius"

It was pretty sweet. Just incredible how frank undressed Self that night.

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Just goes to show that one or two good players with an exceptional coach can utterly destroy one of the deepest and most talented group of players ever assembled when they are hobbled by a bad coach.

It would help your case if there were more frame captures from 10:12 to 10:02.

The entire USC game.  The way plays and feeds were set for non marque players.  Examples are the feed from Pullen to Anderson or the Feed from Beasley to Kent.

If Bill Self is a bad coach, who qualifies as a good coach?

Unfortunately first name that comes to mind is Huggins, then Knight, Howland, Donavan.

Not trying to hijack this thread... but the notion that Bill Self is a bad coach is completely ridiculous.  Especially considering the guy just won a National Championship.  He's one of the best coaches in the country, hands down.

I disagree I think any of the other coaches mentioned given the same talent year in and out through his career would have been in the final 4 at least 3 times.  He's not horrible, but his success is based more on the talent around him than his ability to coach and game scheme.

Mack Brown is one hell of a coach...just so you're aware of what you're saying.  See Big 12 coach smell thread for more insight.

Whether it's Mack Brown, Bill Self, Dean Smith, or anyone else, I always find it amusing when someone is accused of only winning because of the talent they recruited on campus.

I thought that was part of the job description.

Mack Brown is mocked not because he only wins because of the talent around him, but because if he knew how to use/develop talent he wouldn't have his team's national title hopes dashed by The Bold And Daring 2* brigade.  If Self were good enough to coach a team chalked full of high school Americans he might not lose to a high school coach coaching one all American and a bunch of other freshman.

It is.  If x's and o's were the only factor Ronald Prince would prolly be undefeated.  Unfortunately HE thinks that's the only factor....so we're not.  :blank:

Give yourselves a little more credit there.  After the butt kicking we got in Manhappenin, I didn't think you guys would lose until our matchup in Larrytown... That being said, I thought your season was a major underachievement given the potential you displayed in Manhattan and the amount of talent on your squad

LOL. What further did you expect out of the 07-08 cats? We bitched ku at home. We finished 3rd (behind two ultra-talented, veteran teams) and won a game in the NCAA vs a top 6 seed (something that took Self 4 years to accomplish @ ku)

Yeah, we sure were loaded. A whooping 3 RSCI guys, all of which were freshmen.

Do you understand how b-ball works?  It is hard to play up to your potential every night when "your potential" is two NBA players, Clent Stewart, White Tiger, Ron Anderson and some shoe strings.

Well is that not where coaching comes in?  Getting the most out a decent crop of kids.  I see you fail to mention 4* Sutton, 3* Pullen, and the defensive specialist 3* Andre Gilbert...

He had no talent to work with (moral of the thread).  I would like to see what Self's best season has ever been with 3 RSCI guys (don't even have to be freshmen for this experiment even though that's what Frank had to deal with).  Could be good, I don't know, but you have to respect the crap out of what Frank did with 2 good players and a pile of s##t.

Texas had 6 RSCI (2 frosh), ku had 10 (1 frosh). Of course, clown ku fan expected us to finish above those two teams.

Frank had 3, all freshmen and utterly destroyed ku. The guy is an X's and O's genius.

And if Dom was our 3rd RSCI guy remember that he only played half a season.
