It really is kind of a dirty town. It's on I-70 and has 4 strip clubs, lots of homeless people, dirty polluting smokestacks and soon to have two Walmarts (one apparently isn't enough for Lawrence, LOL). Lawrence is basically Junction City with a college.

I lived there for seven years and finally moved away. I was too  all the time.

I'd say the town in which Compton CC is located is probably slightly worse than Lawrence.

I wish.  The closest I came to any crime was when I stole some lady's purse and used her credit card to order some 'za to my house.  Oh my bad, that was actually Mario Kinsey.

Gainesville is creepy.  I've been through there numerous times.  Around Campus and such is nice, but then you get that whole college kid, hippy, gang, Florida redneck confluence going once you get to certain parts of town and it's downright
