He only has USF listed as offering.  Are there others?

P.P. (post post)
sys, would you rather ross-miller or southwell playing only point?

ross-miller, definitely.  southwell just isn't a point guard.  but from their respective offers, i think it is fairly obvious that southwell is more desired player when you remove the stipulation that they each play point.

Southwell definately looks to me to be the more desired player.  Say what it takes to get him here, to him and his mom.

IMO you also have to worry about keeping him here, because if we don't let him play point once he gets here he is likely to bitch about it and walk after a year.  Thoughts?

agree. I'm still curious how frank will use McGruder.  If Gruds is a point/combo, then in '10 we'd have Pullen (sr.), Russell (So), Irving (SO), Gruds (SO), and Sprads (Fr) all playing the 1-2 spots.  I don't know what Southwell really wants, but out 1-2 guards do the ball handling, maybe we can sell him on that.

I would put Southwell  ahead of McGruder and Irving as a PG.  Behind Sprads and Russell.

agree with yosh and trey.  southwell thinks he wants to run point (all players do, i guarantee even colon thinks he's a misunderstood 1), but it will be made obvious to him in practice that his ball handling isn't strong enough to bring the ball up the court full time in the big 12.

everyone says he has above average vision, and if true, i'm sure martin won't hesitate to use him in a point forward role.  he'll eventually be happy to be used as hoskins and wright often were, as the initiators of offense in half court sets.

and i'm sure he'll get to bring the ball up some of time.  hell, martin often had brown running point when sitting clemente and pullen.  and wright brought the ball up plenty for huggins, whenever there was smaller, quick defender that wanted to pressure stewart and wright had a slower guy not suited to defending the ball the length of the court.

Just Southwell, his mom and Hill walking to the Union, they weren't talking much, thought that was kinda weird.

were you close enough to smell any of them?  if so, what did they smell like?  if not, based on what they were wearing, what do you think they smelled like?

Hill doesn't seem like the really talkative type.  Prolly calculating in his head how much money he's made in the time it took to walk to the union.

Hopefully Martin had the video go put together a cut-up of all of Akeem point-forward possessions.  Easily show that he's willing to move him over to that role when necessary.

True.

Maybe adjust his contract so that he works sorta on commision; 10K for every visit from a recruit, 100K for every signed recruit, with like a 75K base.

KC did not go to Cincy because his team had to play. He had 30pts against a good Pinkston team. Tony Mitchell is a beast. He had 37 against GA IN A 74-70 Pinkston victory. The next 2 games KC went off for 50pts and 41pts. GA went 2-1 on the day.

kc ross-miller's father (and coach) on his play this weekend at the houston gaso.  he also mentioned visits to a number of schools.  kstate's name didn't come up.

Marshall to Butler.  Sounded like he underwhelmed this summer.  Still, probably better than whoever we end up with.

older southwell tidbit

Quote
Rice HS’s Shane Southwell has made it known he wants to play the point in college. One high major assistant who’s school isn’t recruiting the 6′6 Southwell told me that Southwell could give you some quality minutes at the point but probably couldn’t do it full time with his current skill set.

He has kind of a Lamark Brown feel to him.  Like he'd be a good get if he'd just get in his damn position.

I compared Southwell to Lamark because a lot of people want him but only if he'll realize he won't make a good point guard and will play SG kind of like Lamark should be a linebacker but demands to play offense.  But with Lamark we've kept our word pretty well and kept him happy to little avail (I know he did well yesterday, but whatever.)  With Peete we did not keep him happy and he left.  I'm glad our staff is telling Shane more or less straight up that he'd be a combo guard in our system.  I'm not sure if Southwell will be worth having out of position and barely playing, which is what would happen if he were point.  I think Lamark is a more accurate comparo to my overall point which is that we'll be highly disappointed when he never reaches his potential.  But I guess we do need someone and we proabably need to tell them crap they want to hear just like the point you were making about Peete.  But don't you think once we get the kid he'll bail for a WAC team just as fast as peete did when we either don't play him or play him at the 2?
