Desired results, in order:

1. Gentile admin buys site
2. Dax / Rusty / etc. buys site
3. Rival fan buys site
4. Saul buys site
5. Site vanishes
6. Mjrod wins lottery, retains site

3-5 are a tossup, I might not have those quite right yet.

I am considering two options:

1. Open a new site which is low-cost, low overhead, but retains the same board format, and features.  I would have full control, but I would keep the current admins on staff.  I wouldn't change much, except perhaps promote more sexual innuendos on the board rather than restricting them, and loosening word filters.   :shy:

2. Run a "Save our Site telethon" to keep KSUFANS.COM, and buy the site.  It would belong to the community, and not a single person.  We would keep the current database and feature set, and run a review on current board policies with the community (polls and such), and see how we can change for the better.  This, IMO, is the more viable option, but I can understand if people would not want to pony up any cash for such an unsure investment.  The investment per person would be low (around $10), but it would be a once a year deal, and not a monthly fee.

Just posting my thoughts...i'm pretty passionate about this site, and do not want to lose it.

I would be more than willing to pony up at the least ten dollars a year to keep the site running.

How much does maintaining a site like this cost? We should get Dax to pay for it.

I think I can I can get by on around $30 a month, and that would allow for future growth of the site.

It's not the monthly cost which is prohibitive, I can afford that by myself (although some help now and then would be nice) - it's the initial start up cost to buy the site which will require the fundraising.

Wait, what is happening?  Where is this place going?

And for the record, I would advise AGAINST going to KSUFans.com.  I used to post there but eventually switched over here because I died of freaking boredom.  Everybody there is old, humorless, and overly sensitive in regards to banning.

Ksufans is to drinking in Aggieville as Kstatefans is to drinking at Finn's Pub.

WHoa hey wait a second there.... We can save this site, and it has potential to be profitable.  Maybe we should form a consortium or run a U-62 telethon??  I understand if mjrod feels it's taking up too much of his time.... Somebody can step up and save it.

#2 is obviously the solution, with the principles from #1 applied (lower cost, more offensive).

  I watched that movie last night, as a matter of fact...

I'm not looking for this site to become profitable.  Over the history of various sports related BBS's (and for some reason, especially KSU boards), that is when the problems start occurring, when they want to turn the site in to a business.  I just want the site to remain active, and sustain itself.

How much would it cost for the start-up? I would contribute with the guarantee that it would remain afloat and little to no changes would be made in regards to policies and what not.

Wow.

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Saul is probably your best bet to keeping it the way it is, and I'm giving him first opportunity to take it over.  Saul's passion as a K-Stater is one of the qualities the site needs to have from an owner.

I'm not stopping because it's taking up too much time.  I have been doing web hosting, web design, and application development for years.   However, I'm experiencing what a lot of businesses are and that is reduced revenue due to harsher economic times.  This is strictly a business decision and while I am securing web hosting services for my other sites and income generators, KSU Fans doesn't fit into that model.   It's a passion I was willing to spend the money to maintain, but I can do that no longer.

I don't think what Saul is asking is too much for those who find value in this site.

The ONLY goal of this is to guarantee the site remain afloat with little to no changes in KSUFANS policies.  I would prefer that any changes made to policies come from the community, not decisions made from the administration.

The cost?  I'm not sure yet.  Details to follow.

I hope this doesn't turn out like the original KATPAK'R where Saul had fantastic plans that resulted in 5 dudes with beer, no Saul, no Saul's grill, and a bunch of raw meat.

At least it sounds like this will be more of a collaborative effort.
