It doesn't matter.

I think your opinion matters or else I wouldn't have asked, so please, which school did you think it was referring to??

Wasn't referring to my opinion.

Is it a tournament where it's great to be a Wildcat?

Doesn't matter, I'm still asking which school you think it referred to. Why are you so reluctant to answer??

Is it a tournament where it's great to be a Wildcat?
Sure is. Now it's your turn to answer my question.

Stanford

Very good. Now do you know the mascot for Louisville??
Cardinals

next question? :excited:

No, that makes the point for me, although Louisville has their mascot listed in a singular form here:

So the point was that "A Cardinal" obviously refers to Stanford, the only team with that as a nickname?

There is a difference between the mascot name and the teams nickname.

Reread the quoted passage in the OP. It doesn't say whether it's great to be a cardinal by nickname or a cardinal by mascot. It could apply to more than one team. The other team mentions aren't as ambiguous. I didn't realize so much of our fan base was going to be flummoxed by this very minor observation.

This is true. Stanford has been Indians and wanted to be Griffins, among other things. Officially they have no mascot.

Imagine this..

Normal Person:  What's your school's name and mascot?

SC:  I'm a Stanford Cardinal.

NP:  Ah.. the Cardinal.. nice bird.

SC:  No, it's Red.

NP:  A Cardinal is red.

SC:  No, our mascot is Red.

NP:  Yeah, I think most cardinals are Red..

SC:  No, our mascot is the color Red as in Cardinal Red.

NP:  Cardinal Red, as in the Bird Red?

SC: Well, yes..

NP: So why not just be the Cardinal?

SC:  Our mascot is Cardinal, the color Red.

NP:  Does your mascot go to games?

SC:  Yes..

NP:  What's it look like?

SC:  Well, the Cardinal Bird..

NP:  Why would your game mascot be a bird if the real mascot is the color?

SC:  I don't really know, that's what they tell us in the indoctrination..

NP:  Isn't Stanford like, one of the top 5 academic institutions in the country?

SC:  Yeah..

NP:  And your mascot is a color, but when you go to games, the mascot is a actually a bird.

SC:  Well.. it's more to get people to understand that the bird is easier to recognize...

NP:  So that's why you put a tree in the logo?

SC:  Umm..

NP:  Nevermind.

SC:  Sorry..

NP:  So what are you taking at Stanford?

SC:  Marketing..

If they were smart at Stanford, they'd change the team name to the Tiger, then that tree mascot would actually makes sense.

Hence my comment about changing the team name to the Tiger so that the mascot makes sense.

Yeah, but your post lacked the visual punch that my gratuitous pic of Elin provided.  Plus, you made reference to a tree, which confused and scared me.  So in summary, using visual aids;

there's only one cardinal.
This could be Ball State or even Iowa State (if you didn't know who was actually in). I would have picked something unique like Torero.

BUMP for saying it was good to be a Torero!

A team whose mascot is its color and who represents itself with a pine tree seems pretty unique to me.

Doesn't get much more unique than that.

Or lame.

the stanford cardinal is lamer than St. Patrick's day falling on a rainy Monday.

Their mascot isn't actually a cardinal, it's a christmas tree.

LBBIQ = all of you.

It's not a X-mas tree, its a redwood.  (Unless you have some serious ass vaulted ceilings, no one I know is using a redwood for a X-mas tree.)  The redwood is the symbol for the city of Palo Alto.  And their official mascot is the color cardinal, not a bird-cardinal.  The tree is really more like an extended, long term student body joke.
