We're not going to be.  I don't care how much some of our defensive recruits weigh, they're all JUCOS and they won't be very good this year.  Our returners all proved that they suck last year, so let's not count on them too much.  Our defense will be in the bottom 1/4 of the Big XII.

And please save me the "our offense should be extremely explosive" nonsense. We lost Jordy, who statistics show we threw to 98% of the time last year.  We lost our starting running back, who wasn't that good, but what does that tell you about who was behind him?    Sure our offensive line should improve this year....just like the last 3 years.  Won't happen.  But hey, those JUCO wide recievers sure look impressive on paper...WR is one of the toughest transitions to make to the next level so expecting production from those "burners" this year is pretty dumb.

Be warned, there will be "hype" videos abounding in the next few months, followed by spring practice and spring game posts talking about how "player x has really progressed" and "player y is an absolute beast."  Well both x and y are going to suck when they actually get on the field and we're not going to win very many games this year, and we're certainly not going to a bowl.

Be strong people.  Hold onto that feeling you had after the Fresno State game.  We'll all be better off.

    The very best.
Through 8 games of the 2007 season, KSU ranked #15 in the sagarin power poll.

When we lost a few defensive starters, we went in the tank.

Just a few, "nuggets" to chew over, imo.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Don't do this.  One "vid." from you and half of this place will be disappointed if we don't win 8 games.

I love fats' vids, but if he makes one, we win like 2 games next year.  It's the Fattytube curse.

I would rather go into the season optimistic and be disappointed, than go in thinking we are going to lose and be proved correct.

Like I keep saying; 6 or 7 wins isn't out of the question.  I can't see any more than that though.

This has been my platform.  Until I see us giving up 10 straight scoring possessions with a healthy non-beaten down squad, I won't believe we suck as bad as the last four games.  I keep thinking back to the defense we fielded at Auburn and Texas when we had guys like Antwon Moore().  We aren't going to win the North but I don't buy the we totally suck hype just yet.
Show me defense.

Okay, say I buy into the "it was the injuries and lack of depth".   You know I've seen plenty of teams with injuries and lack of depth that didn't give up 10 straight scoring drives to a suckass team like Nebraska.

Not sure why the offensive line is still everyone's whipping boy but it case you were not watching it actually did improve last year.  We had a back go for 1200 yards and average 6.5 YPC and had one of the better offenses in the league.  Still don't think we'll be very good next year but just thought I would throw that in.   The o-line was pretty good last year and will be better next year.  The defense was awful last year and I'm not really sure what it's going to be this year probably anywhere from slightly below average to awful.  If it's slightly below average we can squeak out 6 wins if it's awful probably 3.

I don't know how you could predict until you know how good these new players can play.

I think the defense will improve greatly.

The reason I say that the offensive line was terrible is because of all the drive killing penalties they committed last year.  Very undisciplined.  Don't see this changing much.

What fun would it be if we didn't get our expectations unreasonably high before the season?  It makes the meltdown threads that much more spectacular.

Maybe its the fact that we had really high hopes for bball this year, but meltdowns are getting a little "played" for me.

I think injuries and lack of depth is probably magnified more so in a 3-4 than in a traditional 4-3.  We aren't as good as what we saw at Auburn and Texas and probably not as bad as what we saw at Nebraska and Fresno but somewhere in between.  Fair?

Freeman may be a star.

The closest Freeman will ever get to a star is when he rushed the court after we beat ku and stood next to Beasley.

I don't get why people trash JFree.  He's actually a really good quarterback.  The reason his numbers aren't great are because his supporting cast has been craptastic.

Our defense can't really be any worse than the end of the year last year.

I think we're gonna be really bad.  5 wins would be a good year.

Exactly. We've been doing it in basketball for years. Although our idea of high expectations for the bball team has been "if we win the Big12 tourney, we're in, baby!!!"

Freeman could be the best QB in the world, but he'll be throwing to a bunch of first year JUCO retards and a linebacker.  They will make him look suckie.  Come on people, grow up.

ok, here's the thing.  we got freeman, we got 'not a deep threat' murphy, we got pooshkey/musturd and we got leon patton.  It ain't all-star, but it ain't the worst.  If our linebacker wideout doesn't crap all over himself again, then we may have something there despite losing jordy.

the bad part?

ummmmmmmmmmmm......the defense.  Sweet sassy molassey the defense.  Since 2003 it has been sucktastic, but last year it was completely out of control.  Seriously.  OUT OF CONTROL.

Quick recap:

2003
16.3ppg/283.1ypg

2004
30.6ppg/349.6ypg

2005
27.7ppg/359.5ypg

2006
23.8ppg/345.6ypg

2007
30.8ppg/400.6ypg

Really Prince fooled us with '06.  When taken in context, it is flukey/lucky.  Held teams to a few more fg's, got some more rz to's.  whatevs.

But '07?  We earned that.  30 points a game and 400 yards ON AVERAGE A GAME.  Remember when Stan would get all excitable and talk about how T-Tech with their fantsy pants shoot and ladders nintendo offense might come in to Manhattan and put up 400 yards on us?  Well, everyone did that.  The whole year long.

Jesus Christ what an embarassment.  And we didn't even play Tech.  And we played Baylor.  And Auburn.  &@#% me.

In all fairness, those numbers were skewed a bit by 700 yards at Nebraska.

My point is that the yards per game was pretty much constant post-'03 until this year.  The 400 ypg is just a further indication that this year we were much further away from a bowl game than many think.

I think next year will be worse and that is saying something.  I think we are reaching a new tier of suckiness.

True, but it will be VERY entertaining. I also don't see that little nip of hope early in the season, that made the later part of the season so crushing back in 2007.

Could you see Freeman becoming a Lynn Dickey or Archie Manning where everyone just comes to the games with absolutely no expectations except to watch a really great QB?  That is pretty much my last hope.  If Freeman can show another big improvement over last year and make himself a legit NFL prospect, it would be fun, I guess.

The whole thing is going to suck ass until the release of seeing Ron Prince meet complete failure and the excitement of a coaching search.  I'm done with him.  I bitched about people not giving him enough time, about their racism, about them needlessly piling on him about crap that doesn't matter (his reading habits, the re-branding, the slogans) and predicted this whole fiasco playing out as a self-fulfilling prophecy, but he brought a ton on himself.  The scheduling was one thing, but the recruiting coupled with the coaching turnover and then throw all his other eccentricities on top?  I can't defend it any more, I can't take it any more.

It is just painful and sh1tty.  Losing to ku again won't be fun.  Getting raped by Nebraska won't be fun.  Losing to CU won't be fun.  Losing to MU won't be fun.  Getting assrammed by Booby Stoops won't be fun.  Dropping two completely senseless non-cons won't be fun.

I don't see much fun.  I see a slight possibility of entertaining, but even that is a stretch.  It will suck, let's not fool ourselves.

The season after next season when there are truly no expectations left and Prince is either on his way out or another coach is on his way in might be fun, but not next season.

Bleah. :yuck:

I wonder if Stoops will be mean and run it up.  He kind of called off the dogs in '05, but that may  have been because he wanted to get the hell out of the stadium as quicklly as possible before another kid blew himself up.
