I saw it on Friday. Now, I've seen both original movies based on the same book (Last Man on Earth and Omega Man), so I can't help but compare the two. I thought I am Legend was pretty good. It had some of Smith's best stuff. It was a little different role for him. There were two things about this movie I didn't like. First, the monsters. The Last Man on Earth had monsters that were able to communicate. They were mutated humans that devolved into an animal with basic instincts. In I am Legend, they were poorly crafted CG boogey men that only served to jump out of dark spaces. They were brainless animals except for one scene that was clever, yet out of place. Finally, the ending was lack luster. It stayed true (partially) with the originals, but since the mutants can't talk, it seriously lost a lot of meaning (In the original, the lone survivor who is simply trying to stay alive is thought of as a fabled vampire killer within the vampire society, presenting the viewer with an intriguing dichotomy that lame reviewers would undoubtedly think has to do with Iraq).
