As a fan, I'm looking to see if Prince is able to make changes and improvements to his own coaching style (ie, play calls, and timing of play calls). I also want to see if he can maintain a coaching staff. I will be concerned if there's another staff "walk-out." A second off season of re-staffing and losing time recruiting should add pressure on Prince to succeed in season three. Only because this can't become an annual event.
If the staff stays more or less intact (I'm willing for one or two changes, if warranted) and can recruit impact players (whatever their star rating), then we should see improvement in play and consistency on the field.

It's good to be good again!
LOL @ changing your stance after one game (most KSU fans). You hate Weiser so much.

If you are LOL at dax you might want to re-read his post.  He said last few weeks not week.  And he is right.  Not beating OSU and getting embarrassed by ISU is not a sign of improvement.  If your Prince barometer hasn't moved slightly towards "maybe we hired the wrong guy" then you are not paying attention.  I'm still in the wait and see mode myself but the time for Prince to prove himself will come to an end.  Year 3 and Year 4 will be when we will know how Prince is working out.  We will have a 3 year+ starter at QB and Prince will have been able to fill the cupboards with his players.

Yeah, a huge change it was too . . .

And actually, I should have given hugh props to Bill Snyder for putting KSU in the position that it's in today thanks to his grouchy, "can't be bothered", hyperconservatism . . . then couple that with a completely non-dynamic leader that we have in Timmy "I don't see any empty seats" Weiser.

It wasn't really directed at Dax. I just quoted him. I'm kind of speaking towards the GPC crowd that was talking Big XII North championship all of last week and is now calling for Prince's head.

Then there's the GPC crowd who pretty much accepts all matter of mediocrity from KSU.

I'd say it's still at least 50/50 that Prince can amount to something.  A few weeks ago if asked the same question I'd have given it 60/40 in favor of him actually doing something noteable at KSU.  But given the "going through motions" effort of last week and the pathetic performance yesterday that's two years in a row where the season has gone on and things have gotten worse not better.

I'd also put a lot of the keys to KSU's success on Weiser for too many reasons to mention here.  But there's a climate of "will" developing in the Big 12 North, and Timmy Weiser just doesn't have the charisma to get it done.

You called Ron Prince "Stan Parrish", FFS.  You have 0 credibility on this topic, IMO.

    THE b IS NOT CAPITALIZED
I'm telling you, this is not ANYTHING like the team from the beginning of conference play. You will see no more blowouts like what happened in OOC.  If we lose, it will not because these kids gave up, and it will be at the buzzer. -Rodless, before 97-70

So when is it??

I am baffled by this whole thread.  There are powertards that accept mediocrity.  Then the people who would call for his head after this year are morons as well.

As of RIGHT NOW, I have concerns as to where Prince is taking this team.  We have a 2 year trend of our defense sucking at the end of the year.  To me, that means poor coaching.  Other teams are figuring out what we do, and we aren't changing anything to combat that.  Also, as it stands right now, I don't see it getting any better next year.  Now, that could (and I hope) should change by mid February.

I like Prince, and I'm pretty pissed off still, so I may not be the most level headed person right now, but I don't think expecting to win against ISU is unrealistic, nor do I think it's unrealistic to expect our team to play at the level they are capable of playing at.  If we played our best and still lost, I think I could handle it.  Kinda like the OSU game.  But that horse crap performance yesterday....very aggravating.

I hope Prince can get this crap turned around.  I tend to be in the things are never as bad/good as they seem camp, so while I have my doubts that we can win any more games this year, we probably will, and we probably will go to a bowl.

Anyway, I hope you are wrong, Rusty. (not being a dick)

    The "other" KSU
I dont think it's fair to throw Prince under the bus... yet. If he is still touting this BS to us when he has "his guys" in all of the position - THEN we should talk about canning him like a sardine. BTW, our FB program is still in it's infancy IMO - it was still less than 20 yrs ago when we were the worst in NCAA history.

There's "accepting mediocrity" and there's "demanding an unrealistic level of perfection."

Both viewpoints are ridiculous.

You win some.  You lose some.  Sometimes you win games you shouldn't, sometimes you lose games you shouldn't.  Sometimes you lose a whole lot, then you hire a genius who works a miracle and turns yoiur football program around.  Sometimes you win a whole lot, then you go to St. Louis and lose to Texas A&M.  No one wins all of the games all of the time...and dropping a game to a rapidly-improving Iowa State team on the road is not going to end Prince's coaching career.  No coach in America has won every game that they're "supposed" to win.

If Prince cannot go to bowls and cannot finish above .500 consistently, he should be let go.  If he can get us to bowl games every year and never finishes below .500, we should keep him.

We lost another D-Lineman and have several injuries across the board.   The team is beat up.   I agree we need to get a couple good recruits, but they won't be an impact for another year or two.

The good thing about this staff is that practically every player than can play does and I think that is a good thing to help build experience for the future.

He's in year 2 of a five year contract.   I said I would evaluate him after year three.   So far, I think he's doing well, but if you consider the totality of his work, the kinds of play that is happening, you'll see there is improvement in the system.   The defense is just one component.   I think once that one is solved, we'll be in a much better position.

Our offense is playing better football than we have any right to expect.

Special teams is sort of hard to figure out.

The defense... isn't.

Of course the D is playing in their third scheme in as many years.  We really need to get some continuity (and some players) on this side of the ball.

If we did something stupid like fire Tibs after this year and go with a new scheme, than I'd shorten the leash on Prince in a hurry.  But as it is now, I like the odds of Prince doing well.

If we were to lose out, and then miss a bowl game again next year...  :curse:
