Yes, this is my first post, but I have been a longtime lurker and admirer of you all.  What do you all think of the proposed Rec Expansion?  I am very interested in this and think it's much needed.  They posted a link to the expansion info site today.

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Will it be better than Mizzou's? That's all I care about.

Hard to say if it will be better than Mizzou's, but they spent waay too much money on bells and whistles.  This would have us in good shape though in the area of Rec buildings.  Too bad they couldn't have included pools though!

K-State's rec is already pretty respectible and an expansion would be awesome.  You should see the rec in Lincoln.  It has almost no windows and feels like your working out in a concrete room that was built in 1809 where a fifty gallon drum of red paint exploded at some point  :yuck:.

I've heard that we have one of the best (the best?) recs in the Big XII? True or no? I know for a fact that we have a better rec than USC though (not even kidding)... always beating our rivals, I guess.

I have heard the same.  The NU rec is the only other one I have been in though.  Ours is about 700 times nicer/newer/bigger/brighter/cleaner/less redish.

i was at KSU the last time this vote came up (1991) and even though it seemed like it took them forever to finish, the results were awesome.  of course vote yes on stuff like this.

think about it-
good rec = more girls working out.  more girls working out = skinnier girls, tighter asses, firmer thighs.  skinnier girls, tighter asses, firmer thighs =   :dancin:   :excited:   :censor:

i was there during the renovations.

i always vote yes on new stuff.

hot girls = babies

babies = crying

crying = get me out of the house

get me out of the house = going to the rec.

going to the rec = more hot women

I noticed your switch from girls to women after going to the gym. This is why we all go.

LOL at the little leftists who cooked up this plan dumping a disproportionate share of the costs on future students who will have no say:

Establishing a $20 fee per student per semester for three years that will increase to $40 per student per semester for 27 years.

So you would demolish the rec, start to rebuild,  half way through realize what a cluster&@#% it is and just pave a 1/2 mile track instead?

I really wish MHK had a fitness center, so the non-students wouldn't use the rec (riley rats/old people etc...)

LOL @ your lack of reading comprehension skills.  The little leftists who want to plan and authorize this project should impose the same fee on themselves that they'll be imposing on future generations of students.  In general the Rec is a good thing but backloading the payment onto folks who aren't currently represented is a poor (read "leftist") way to go about things.

No need to lay down a new running track, there's an excellent mile track in City Park that I found usable 365 days/year.

Renderings: http://www.k-state.edu/yesrec/gallery.htm

Note about Nebraska's - They are in the midst of a huge expansion themselves...I forget how much, but I'm wanting to say $40 million.  Mizzou just did a $55 million expansion.  ku just built a new one and are already expanding.  Shoot, even Emporia St. and Washburn have built new ones in the last 5 years or so.  I think almost every school in the Big 12 has either expanded recently or are planning more now.  We can't get left behind.  These things are major recruiting tools for students.

Note about the fees and the future increase - Of course future students should pay more since they are the ones who get to use it.  Right now, KSU students pay $35.25/semester for Rec Sports.  As of last year, that ranked last in the Big 12.  In order:
1. Missouri - $125.60
2. Nebraska - $108.60
3. Texas A&M - $98.00
4. Colorado - $96.78
5. Texas - $92.50
6. Okie St - $78.60
7. Baylor - $75.00
8. Oklahoma - $70.77
9. ku - $62.00
10. Texas Tech - $60.00
11. Iowa St. - $44.95
12. KSU - $35.25

So even with an increase of $20, plus the increase down the road, we're still not even close to the top half of the Big 12....and this isn't taking into account the inevitable increases they will have.  Vote Yes!!

Kat Kid -

The roof repairs started yesterday, so that's happening.  No worries.  The roof that's leaking is the original roof from back in like the 70s, so it's been long overdue.  Supposedly it's going to be done by IM baskeball season.

Question:

Why the hell did the START the construction on the parking garage after fall semester began and START the roof repairs 9 weeks into the fall semester?

Isn't summer a great time to start major construction projects that involve high-traffic areas?

Probably cheaper.  March through about September is the high season for contractors.

There is also a bunch more cheap labor and it is more convenient for the rest of the University.

How many people do you think work construction seasonly?

Back to the original topic:  I really wish they would just fix the leaks in the roof before they tried to build up some huge new complex.

i just thought that i would drop in on this topic. as it turns out i am on the rec planning committee and the rex expansion committee so if you have any questions let me know.

the issue about the leaks has been continually pushed back due to governmental funding issues. this is not to say that they aren't gonna get them fixed, the new plans include a couple million in renovations along side the expansions. i can get you guys some renderings if you want. in the mean time check out for more info.

http://ksu.facebook.com/group.php?gid=19081056896&ref=nf

also, please vote yes, it would be amazing to get everything started. the pool is in the plans, but it is going to have to wait until the next expansion. the committee felt the price increase would be too great if they were included. i have actually seen the plans for it with the pool and it is awesome. currently we have the most efficient (money wise) rec in the nation, and it will continue to be that way. we are getting a great rec for the amount of money we are spending. you should be happy to help progress ksu and help out future ksu students.

p.s. part i'm most excited about... the 43ft climbing wall and bouldering area!!!!!  :ksu: :ksu: :ksu:

I was told that they had just finished with the bids and started immediately after.
