His Classes pre-2002 were very good. The ones w/Stoops and Venebales were excellent.

http://www.mo-kanfootball.com/subscribers/news¬es.htm

I wouldn't call any class not in the top ten 'excellent.'  I also don't think Snyder really ever actually had a top 25 class.  And winning many of the MO-KAN battles doesn't impress me either.  (I'm having trouble believing that it impresses you.)

Here's another funny thing about Snyder vs. Prince.  Snyder never landed a recruit as highly rated as Freeman.

OK. So Snyder's classes weren't that great.

But they weren't this bad. Ever. Not even close.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Who knows?  Snyder didn't exactly set the bar that high in the area of recruiting rankings (see your source below).  If we finish strong, we could easily be in the same ballpark as his average classes.  We will need to finish strong, though.

This is one of the top two classes ever signed by Bill Snyder. Final grade…85 %. (Top 30 class)

I'm glad for the change, especially on offense.  Hopefully the offense can be two-dimensional now.

Brilliant.

Results-wise...I would have to go with '03...however, it never went away...and was always pretty innovative.

Yes, he got a little more conservative the last 2 years...I'm guessing that was for various reasons.

I'm still of the opinion that he was loyal to a fault and a couple of dimwit assistants and lazy recruiters led to his demise.

BTW Chum, you are totally wrong here. Snyder had a very EFFICIENT passing game.

At its peak, Snyder's passing game was the definition of efficiency.  Run, option, run, option, run, fake option deep bomb for TD.

You forgot to add.. occassionally, call the play with 9 seconds left on the 25 second clock.

My initial claim was about having a true two-dimensional offense.  The above approach worked great against weaker teams, but our inability to pass with any consistency hurt us in big games.

I think it was 1999 when on the season we had 2302 passing yards and 2302 rushing yards.

Yeah....in the big games we'd sometimes struggle passing the ball...but that is why they are big game..they are tough.

If by "occasionally," you mean "3 out of every 4 plays...including coming out of a timeout"...

Why would you want a two-dimensional offense when you can have a three-dimensional offense (option, run, pass) ?

Yes, it hurt us to the tune of four-straight eleven win seasons...back-to-back wins against Texas...wins against Tennessee and Washington in bowl games...and pastings of Nebraska at Nebraska and #1 OU in 2003...perhaps the two games that best showed the potential in that offense when the right personnel were on the field.  It was an offense that took advantage of a quarterback with a strong but not always accurate arm and minimized the potential for turnovers through the air.

Our problems in big games were a result of fumbles, defensive lapses, and extraordinary play by the other team's offense, not a lack of big plays by our own.  When that offense clicked, it was a thing of beauty.

How many rushes and passes, though?  Balance isn't about yardage, it's about play distribution.  We've been a run-oriented team for quite a while now.  Unfortunately, our running quarterbacks were not the most accurate passers.  They just weren't.

My impression is that we had a top ten defense that would always need to bail out an offense that just went three and out.  I'm definitely not complaining about the success, but I think that, of the three units, the offense was the weakest, and that the passing game was the weakest part of the offense.

KSU's offense when clicking was a thing a beauty, but it never played an entire game.   Even in the ku mauling in 2002, Snyder reigned it in.

I have no doubt that Prince has been consulting with Snyder on the offense, and from what I heard from Catbackers in Beloit, apparently, he and Franklin have been students in the Snyder offense.

It would just totally kick ass if on the first play of the game in the first game if we saw an option to the short side of the field with Florida Atlantic expecting a WCO play.

I remember in 2003 every game we lost (a touchdown or less) we had given up a non-offensive TD.

Let's break this down. 2 periods, the 1st three 11 wins seasons vs the 2nd threee 11 wins seasons

97 Losses
NU - We weren't as good

98 Losses
Aggy - Defense Failed
Purdue - Defense Failed

99 Losses
NU - We weren't as good

00
OU - Defense gave up 34 points - Defense failed
Aggy - Offense only put up 10 points - Offense Failed
OU - Offense Failed

02 -
 CU - Defense failed Big-Time
UT - Offense Failed

03
Marshall - Both Failed (Gave up a non defensive TD..lost by 7)
Texas - Offense Failed( Gave up a non defensive TD..lost by 4)
OSU - Defense Failed (Gave up a non defensive TD..lost by 7)
OSU - Both Failed (Gave up a non defensive TD..lost by 7)

Seems pretty even to me. The problem with our losses in the 00's compared to the losses in the 90's is we played sloppy. We turned it over wayy to much and we gave up stupid touchdowns. The 90's teams played alot smarter.

The 02 and 03 teams statistically were utterly amazing. They lost games by 4,3,7,4,7,7 points.

In 2002, the lack of passing game killed us vs Colorado (I was there...this one hurts alot because we were alot better of a team) and vs Texas
