QFT.

In all seriousness if we can keep ku one dimensional and not hurt us on the ground too badly we're going to tee off on the kid later in the game.

I know this is just a fishing thread, but the third string is Tyler Lawrence. Believe it or not, there are a few ku fans that wished he would have had more of a shot at competing for a starting spot this year. He is a redshirt freshman (from the same recruiting class as Reesing) and he has probably the best arm on our team.

At ku's practices, just watching our QB's throw (without knowing who the starter was) most would say he throws the best/prettiest ball. Tight spiral, very accurate, good velocity. He isn't nearly as polished as the other QB's though, and doesn't have the mobility that Mangino wants in a QB. In all seriousness, I can't see him beating out Reesing or Meier while they are at ku and at his current level would be nervous seeing him in the game. But I can see him stepping up after they graduate and being ku's starter as a senior, unless AJ Steward or a yet to be recruited QB comes into the picture.

Re: the implications of this thread, though: Reesing has never missed a game due to injury in his life. He may not be big, but he is very durable and would surprise me if ksu was able to knock him out. Not for lack of effort, I'm sure, ksu has a long track record of injuring QB's. For once, I'd like to see a ku-KSU game where both QB's played the whole game healthy.

Naw, I wasn't thinking injury.
I figured Mangino would only let Reesing and Meyer throw 4 or 5 interceptions apiece before pulling them.

Before getting too concerned about who ku's 3rd string QB is (I think our second string QB kicked the cats asses last year), shouldn't you be concerned about who the 2nd string QB for your team is?  The most qualified guy would be Nelson and while I think he is really good, I don't think he can win a game by throwing screen passes to himself.

Then again I think your named 2nd stringer should be good as he was recruited by Notre Dame (de Sion). (for you country boys, that is a girls school in KC).

ku is the only team in the country where the backups are always better than the starters. What the hell is Mangino getting paid for if he can't field his best players?

Not very high on our short list of concerns, no.  The most legitimate threats against Freeman playing on Saturday are weightlifting injury, demonic possession, or a meteor strike.  Coin toss handshakes will be the roughest contact he must endure from the ku defense.

Not sure where you get this from. Reesing is clearly the best QB on ku's roster with Meier just behind. Just because Tyler has a better arm and throws a prettier ball doesn't mean he is a better QB. ku had Brian Luke for a long time who drew similar raves that Tyler is getting when he was a freshman. While he was never more than a backup, he threw the prettiest passes I've seen in a long time. There were fans that wanted him to start as well, but he also fumbled snaps, made bad decisions, had little pocket presence and was slower than molasses.

I think Tyler has potential, but right now he is no more than a third string I'd be nervous to see on the field. He may grow to be a starter by the time he's a senior, but that isn't guaranteed- especially with a guy like AJ Steward now on the roster.

We've allowed only 4 sacks all year. If Quentin Groves couldn't knock Freeman out of the game, I doubt anyone from ku will.

We all know about the Meier QB myths... speaking of Miss Meier - isn't her vagina broken or something?

BTW, I am sure that durability was/isn't a concern with Colt McCoy either... oops.

So a ku fan responds with rational discussion points of ku's third string QB but K-State fans sit back and say that Freeman can't be hurt so why worry about a 2nd string guy.  Keep drinking the purple Kool Aide guys.

Purple kool-aid is part of the balanced diet that makes Freeman impervious to everything short of meteor strikes.

You guys just don't get it do you?  You are implying that KSU hitting and injuring a QBs in the past has been a result of dirty play.  Not so.  It's part of the game.  Protect your QB and it won't happen.  Last I checked, you were supposed to hit the guy with the ball, regardless of what position he is playing.  If a finger happens to be ripped off or a concussion takes place as a result of the tackler making a legal play, well, that's just too bad.  Sorry Zac.

P.S. Better tell Toddy to strap on his bonnet and tuck that ball in.

P.P.S. Yes, Todd will be hit.  Clean. Hard.  Often.  Welcome to the purple jungle.

You can't deny ksu has a long track record of injuring QB's. Hybl, Wegner, Applewhite, White, Whittemore, McCoy.... just off the top of my head. How many QB's have you knocked out this year alone? I'm not implying ksu plays dirty- you are the one saying that. I'm saying you have a long track record of injuring QBs, and I don't see that stopping any time soon. You yourself stated that ksu would try to hit Reesing hard... how is that any different than me saying it would surprise me if ksu was able to knock him out, but not for lack of effort?

We have a long track record of knocking out QB's because we had an attacking style defense that was consistently top 5 in the country for about a decade.  Nothing more, nothing less.

No, I think the defense and Jon Cornish kicked our ass last year.  I don't see either one of those around this year.
