I know what HDR is, I've been doing it since before I knew what it was called and before I ever heard of that technique anywhere else. Yes, a RAW shot is what you need for action shots; but landscapes you can do the same thing with any camera that allows you to manually adjust the exposure. All you need is a tripod. Take several picks at different exposures and it's cake.
But for the purposes of online stuff, you don't need a RAW image, you just need a properly exposed image and you can fake it good enough for anything that won't be printed.
