Only sissies and girls need inspiration for HS basketball.  Football needs men to be leaders.

I don't think the Sooners do that cheer...it exceeds their word limit by one.

Back to the point, as the Boss starts singing in the background....

Quote
I had a coach that tried to get some fake enthusiasm going when someone made a nice play.

This is a valid point.  Kids not buying in and/or losing can have the same effect as the business like approach; it will make little difference and you'll still lose ballgames.  Its too early to see if this technique will work or not.  I for one like seeing more enthusiasm and I try to coach that way myself, but in the end its got to be "real" to the guys or it won't mean much.  I'm hoping that Prince is making the right connections with the team AND has enough talent that whatever he's trying to make unfold through motivational technique, scheme, etc. works.  I'm tired of watching other teams play in late December/early January.

Enthusiasm works so long as it's accompanied by success.  Start the season off in the crapper and 'rah-rah' techniques will be counter productive.

Right now though, I like it.  Give 'em a fresh start after the abyss.

We already have an Uber-distinctive cheer.

I hate when the cheerleaders tried to do Purple Power and all that junk and it just fatigues the crowd when they're asked to cheer during all the time-outs/gamebreaks.  Especially when the cheer is stupid/forced.  I hope this goes the way of the pep band's "hey let's clap until we score!"

One thing I do miss @ the b-ball games.  In the mid-Asbury era was making the human tunnel on the court and giving high fives to the players.

The thing is ... in watching a bunch of stuff.  It's not touchy-feely crap all the time ... it's get excited stuff.

I've seen plenty to convince me these coaches are going to get up in guys grills whey they aren't performing.

Have we really gone downhill so much that we have to compare our athletic abilities when we were younger?   Sexy Body contest?  In Hiawatha????

Next time I'm in Manhattan, we need to have a tackle football game at the City Park (I did that all the time back in my day.)

We'll see just how much of an athlete you all are.

I will F**k up anyone who dares to cross me.

No one here could guard me, no one here would pass to my side of the field, no one here could stop me.

You gimp kneed bastages would get embarassed.

I will admit there is no way I would try to tackle MJ, but him catching up to me is a joke.

NATION, per your question.  No, it was not a pursuit drill.  It was situational scrimmage on the goalline.  And what Prince wanted was when a defensive stop was made, the entire defense was to go out and celebrate with the unit on the field on that stop.  Again, the emphasis is a) on this is a game so have some fun playing it and b) to build team unity and get rid of selfishness.  At the very end, he gets on the two that are slow going out and says "quit pouting" which implies that they were probably taken out and were upset.  Prince was saying get over yourselves and go celebrate what your team has just done.  It may seem like something that should be inherent, but more and more its not and you have to teach and coach it.  As long as its not overemphasized (and I doubt it is, this was a situational deal to make a point I'm sure) IMO its a very good thing.
