Too optimistic.  The only way we win is if We get a touch on O, a Touch on special and can hold Auburn to under 14.  Not likely.

    This ZERO is my Hero
This will be an ugly game, Auburns defense will be crushing, we just have to hope ours can be too.  I don't think either offense will look real good, but if Josh limits mistakes I think we can be in this game.

Special teams will be crucial.  If our special teams our as good as they were last year, we'll win.
However, having just written that sentence, I remembered we still have no kickers.....

Yes, every Cat fan should be excited.  Football season is here and we are in the hunt!  To those who would piss on the parade before it starts, we'll let you jump on the wagon after we spank the Sqawks on October 6th.  Enjoy the ride!

To me the SEC is always thought of as the best defensive conference but sometimes I tend to think its because they have many inept offenses.  With this being the first game which means the defenses will be ahead of the offense anyway plus both teams seem to have weaker O's, I'd be surprised if either team gets out of the teens.  I still think we would need some major breaks to have a real shot.

Who knows....with a couple big breaks.... :ksu:.....but I'd still rather go into it hoping for a good showing but expecting a loss, so I don't feel as depressed when we are 0-1.

Why we won't win...(Don't get me wrong-I'D LOVE A VICTORY LIKE THIS, but being from the south, I'm realistic)

Offense: Sputters in the spotlight of ESPN and the chaotic noise of opening day crowd. James Johnson will find holes hard to come by with the guards getting pushed around and the constant pressure from the outside by Groves and Moss. The linebackers will be everywhere- big and young, they may be inexperienced, but they've got the athletic tools to make up for it. Our best shot may be to throw the ball, especially away from Josh Wilhite. Unfortunately, Freeman won't have the time to find his Wide-Outs often.

Defense: While Auburn's offense isn't anything to ooo and ahhh over, they've got enough weapons to get the job done. The 3-4 defense will stumble. Plays will be made, but more will be lost to the rushing attack put on by Tate and Lester. The line will be anchored by Dunlap and star recruit Ziemba, who will come into his own after the first few series, especially only having to worry about Manu to the outside. And with nobody making a push in the middle, the interior of the O-Line (the most vulnerable) won't have to worry. Wide outs Prechae Rodriguez and Rod Smith will do their part when in need of a big play, but when being covered tight by Moore or Cheatham, look for frosh Chris Slaughter to come through. Speed kills, and to play a 3-4, you've got to have it...everywhere, not just at a few positions. Runs to the outside will be too easy.

Special Teams: Probably our best shot. The Tigers bring inexperience to the kicking game, so we're even. But at punter and returners, we've got a shot. But let's be honest, you can't get all your points from this area and expect to win against this type of opponent.

Go Cats! Just play your best and make it worth watching... :ksu:

Freeman will demonstrate that he has learned the valuable lesson of protecting the ball

AUburn fan here so I may have my facts missed up, but didn't I read Freeman threw like 4 picks in a scrimmage last week.  HAs he learned that lesson since last week?

This guy must be smoking something.

We won't win this game.  This is a road game in a tough enviroment against a good team.  It's very very rare to win games like this even in the DOD I'm not sure we ever won a road game that was this difficult.  Look at the top 10 road wins thing that is on kstatesports.com and you'll see that most of the top 10 road wins were against unranked teams.

I think we can be competitive if we avoid mistakes and can force a few turnovers but to win this game is a pretty tall order.  There isn't a team in the big 12 right now that I would pick to go to Auburn and beat them.   Not to say that Auburn would be the best team in the 12 because I think both OU and Texas would beat them on a neutral field but I don't think they would do it in their house.

This will go down like the Rutgers game, for the same reason; we don't have the same caliber of horses across the board.

At half time the combination of the score and a fresh infusion of booze will result in my thinking we still have a shot, despite the fact that we were dominated and it was just a lucky play or two that kept the score close.

The second half will be a Tyson-Spinks redux.

I don't see their offense tearing us apart like RU did.
It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Until I see our 3-4 (without a nose tackle) stop the run, I'm going to assume AU will have success on the ground.

I guess there are some folks that could make the argument that this was the same type of talk we all heard in 2003 at the Big 12 championship in KC as it was "neutral" (not even close being at Arrowhead) BUT my point is we dont have anywhere close to the talent on Defense as that team. I am wanting to call for the upset, but I cant bring myself to it. A competitive game would be nice, and a scare that we could upset would be cool, but I still think when I pull off the purple lenses - it's going to be a long day.

Defense:The 3-4 is going to allow our athletes to exploit the inexperience of the Auburn o-line. Ian, Rob and Chris Patterson will have outstanding games.  Watch John Houlik, too.  Oh and did I mention our secondary.  It won't suprise me if they aren't a top 20 unit this year.

Offense:  Freeman will demonstrate that he has learned the valuable lesson of protecting the ball.  He'll play smart like Ron Prince.  I expect Johnson to have a big day and Leon will contribute some.  And those southerners are going cheer for the purple when they see a white kid (#27) out run their seconfary.  Jordy makes a statement that 2007 is going to be like 2005, only better.

Special Teams: Reyer shows that he will help  us with field position by pinning the Tigers deep the few times he'll be called upon.  Did I mention Murphy, Moore and McKinney will be strong on returns?  And don't be suprised if MW doesn't block a punt.

Bold and Daring 2.0 has a lot to prove and I believe their going to get this party stareted right away!

Go Cats!

Defense-May be true for the passing game...but Auburn won't pass much. Aburn is going to see if K. State can pllay smash mount football and run right at them. I am betting you guys can't stop the run.

Offense-One thing your "white kid" won't do is outrun our secondary. Freeman may have learned to protect the ball...but what other options does he have when he is flat on his ass?

Special Teams: I have to give the nod to you guys on this. We bring in new kickers across the board and our main KR is injured. We have also struggled at PR so this should be interesting. Tuberville says though that our kickers are not as big of a weakness as he thought though going into fall ball.

Won't surprise me either if we're a Top 20 secondary.....considering that our run defense will liely not be very good.

Which happens first:

Pass/run out of a fake FG attempt

OR

Pooch kick out of a fake FG attempt

This is one of the more intriguing angles on the game.

Your defense might be too much, I agree with you on that, BUT you may be suprised... that white guy's name is Jordy Nelson and he has smoked some secondaries like cheap cigars - perhaps the last thing you would want is a healthy Jordy Nelson. I hope your DC underappreciates Jordy as much as you do... either way, I can hardly think of anything at work right now this weekend is going to rule!

No disrespect to Nelson at all. I don't know him or have seen him play so maybe I shouldn't have said that. I do know one thing about our kids...they can flipping run. The whole defense can. They may not know where they are going some of the time (or that's what it looked like at some parts last year) but they can fly! That is more or less what I was basing my opinions on...not on your guy.

Also, if you are going to score much, do it in the first half! Muschamp is an expert at making halftime adjustments. Look at the Nebraska and Florida game last year. Both looked bleak going into half time but looked like different teams in the second half. The Auburn D shut out both of the teams in the second half and kept Florida to 96 total yards for the half and held Nebraska to something like 74 total yards in the second half!

That's where the SEC always gets in trouble with the Big 8/12. SEC teams start running scared after you punch them in the mouth once or twice.(It's smash mouth football by the way you stupid southern hick).

I watched the so-called great back they had last year, some punk-ass mouthy pinhead named Irons. He barked and he barked how he was was going to break big time yards against Nebraska. We put his rap ass back on the bench with a quiet day.

The paper Tigers are very beatable, most SEC teams are when they play against power(smash mount) football teams like the ones in the Big 12...

It's your game to lose Gay-State.. All-trud is nothing but a group of southern wanna-be dog beatin rappers..

Watch for opening day in Atlanta for the falcons first game... Opening music...  Who let the dogs out!!

Did I say Vanro031, nice quote. No, dumb f**k.

And who the f**k said anything about a top ten team? Another thing, are you saying that because someone has more yards than Auburn, they should be ranked higher? I am the dumb ass? And who is Gag-State? Is that another one of your dumb ass name calling nick names that has made you popular on websites through out the Big 12? Also, the K-State guys have coined the racist thing...come up with your own schtick...(p.s. try something original) Weak, weak, W E A K sauce man!
