    Hey, basketball!!!

Let's say that Jared hits the FG (terrible blocking btw, numerous longhorns had a shot to block the kick), and we go into OT and win. We'd have one loss going into the Big XII Championship. We play a 10-2 (6-2) OU team in Reliant. The Sooner's were lead on offense by Nate Hybl, certainly not a big threat. Would've been fun to play that game out. Now here comes your opinion: If we beat them, do we have a shot at the NCCG? If we lose where do we go? My guess would be the Cotton Bowl.

IMO other than the 1998 team, the 2002 team had the best chance to get to the NCCG. Damn that defense was good.

Just a little discussion while counting down the days to 9/1.

I hate what-ifs.

2002 was our best defense easily, although we had better defensive players in 98.

and that 02 offense..sproles and ell and terry..sigh.  How we lost to anyone that year is beyond me.  Same thing with 98.

That kick was right in front of me...I couldn't even watch it because I knew that f'ing bastard was going to miss it.  Then I got to watch Crissy march off the field holding up the hook'em horns.

    I'm with Coco.
We should have won against CU, as well. Remember the pass in the end of the end zone that was ruled out of bounds, yet was definitely in bounds?

Remember the PI called on Dunnigan when it was actually an uncatchable ball when we were down 31-35 late in the fourth? Yeah, that allowed CU to run time off the clock and preserve the four point victory.

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

Thirteen. We've had season tickets in both basketball & football since I was two, so I litterly started out a Kansas State fan when I was an infant.

I don't really feel too much like a what-if on the UT game.  That kick was blocked due to poor blocking and that our kickers never got the ball up quick enough.  There was a slim chance of us making that kick the way we kicked that year.  Hell, PATs were difficult enough

I don't think our offense was good enough (well rounded enough) to win a NC that year.

I htink you're focusing on the wrong game.

Losing to UT that year in the regular season stung...but it wasn't near as bad as losing out in Boulder, CO.

We had a better team, but CU played some good football that day. We should have at least won the North in '02.

    Hey, basketball!!!
Three plays of 70 yards or more. One was a miss tackle by McGill on Chris Brown than he ran 70 yards for the TD, second was Brian Calhoun beating Bobby Walker (started cramping up), the third one there was no excuse......Jeremy Bloom is just a fast mutha.... :blank:

We just couldn't defend the big play that day....

A few points on the UT and CU games.

- You're focusing on the wrong play in the picture.  I saw a picture about a year later that CLEARLY showed that BJ Johnson trapped his "TD catch."  Sure Dunnigan was awful and a midget, but you still have to catch the ball...and Johnson didn't.  Anyone have that picture?  I also went back and watched the film and again it looked like a clear trap with a ref. standing within 10 feet of the play.  But the picture was completely conclusive.

- As for the FG at the end...ummmm....who anticipated that thing going through.  Either kicker could have trotted on the field and the there still would have been a sinking feeling in my gut.  We couldn't make a simple XP (early in the year particularly), let alone a game tying FG with just seconds remaining.

- The CU game is still the one that pisses me off the most.  Granted it was a great game if you didn't have a dog in the fight, but KSU was much more talented than CU that year.  Hell, KSU had just beaten a USC team that absolutely destroyed CU in Boulder weeks before.  But on that day, particularly in the first half, everybody on CU's team looked like an All American.  Bloom never had a catch even approaching that distance before or since.  The midget QB looked like Joe Montana.  Bobby Walker should have a permanent shrine erected at the visitor end of the field for his completely crapty play (hamstring injury my ass).  Williams had a sack and a fumble in the endzone that got ruled an incomplete pass.  Then there was the tackling on the Brown run...or shall I say lack of tackling on the Brown run.  I was standing next to the KSU players as they entered the locker room at halftime and they were a beaten bunch.  It was amazing to see how they came out in the second half and made a game of it.

But having vented a bit...that run at the end of the year was simply amazing!

KSU teams will have to become good over an extended period of time (i.e. 20-30 years) to get a shot at the NC with anything but an undefeated season.

We should have played in the Orange bowl that year with an at large, the big 11 screwed us because Iowa didn't have to play ohio state that year.

Honestly, they should have come back and won. Give CU props for standing up when they needed to. We had two trips in their 10 yard line, and came out with 3 points. &@#%ing strickland.  :crybaby: :crybaby:

CU fans were meanies after the game.

Not possible. Dunnigan on Johnson was a terrible match-up.

Here's another what if....and I'm not a coach second guessing freak....BUT...

What if Ron Hudson (and Bill Snyder) would have called more than one fricken' draw play in the game?  OU and Quentin Griffin had absolutely TORCHED UT the week before to the tune of 200+ yards, most of which came on the same draw play over and over and over.  KSU ran one with the very similar Darren Sproles...for about 60 yards and never ran it again.

Remember, Vasher is on the verge of all-pro, ds43 is not.

Yep, but DS has great breakaway speed and also had fifteen yards on Vasher. Just look what Nathan's doing in the NFL now though - longest punt return TD in NFL history.
