Difference in schedules. Texas play four teams before us, all non-BSC schools. Prince said we wouldn't have beaten Texas without being beat by Louisville. I think Auburn serves as that for us this year, win or lose.

Date          Kansas State                Texas
9/1                @ Auburn                      Arkansas State
9/8                San Jose State               tcu
9/15               Missouri State                @ U. Central Florida
9/22               BYE                              Rice
9/29               @Texas                         Kansas State

Seriously, I think we may have a shot. If we are able to beat Auburn, (if) there is no doubt that we will be prepped to go into Texas. Even if we lose to Auburn, we will be prepped by Auburn, play an underrated San Jose State, sleep walk against Missouri State and then have a bye week to build on our bold and daring playbook for the Texas game.

The idea that we wouldn't have beaten Texas without playing UL is amazingly stupid.  How did beating USC in '02 help us against CU and UT?  If anything, UT's schedule allows them to
-play a number of players thus maintaining quality, experienced depth should an injury occur
-work on things in live games without really having to worry about losing that game
-gain confidence by pounding teams

...if we win at Texas it won't be because we played Auburn, it'll be because we are probably a good team.

In Austin? After being embarrassed in defeat last year in prime-time?

I'd honestly say the chances are nil.

Thats what was said about our OU game in 2003.

You can't argue that K-State will be better prepared for Texas than Texas will be for us.

Heck they said the same thing about the Texas game last year.

Does this not help incress our odds if people believe we have no chance of winning?

Thanks for improving our chances J-Mart :ksu:

The reason we beat UT last year was because NOBODY gave us a chance in hell to win.

THis year that kind of thinking is gone as some Kstater's and a few new Freeman bandwagoner's are killing that idea. damn them :banghead:

JMart on the bandwagon!

A little suprised at your lack of restraint here.  Comments like this have a tendency to bite people in the arse.  Not that I expect to win in Austin, but I think I'll wait to see how the team performs in a couple of games before I set our chances at nil.

no offense but lol.  Their OL was gutted.  Lost a crapload of experienced players defensively.  You don't win by just throwing talent on the field.  And Texas is not that well coached.    I look back to the '03 game in Austin...Texas had no chance that day IF Vince isn't playing because it was hilarious watching their YOUNG OL try to block for Chance Mock or whatever his name was.

I think we're going to be awfully salty on defense...Jackson, Campbell, Walker, Patterson...vets in the secondary.

Not only that, but we seem to have a hold on the Longhorns...

And not just in FB, but other sports as well.
The odds are still against us...but I don't know if I
would say they are nil.

Probably 20-25% chance.

we would be disallusioned if we thought that last years game can happen again. and going into austin will be pretty tough, in fact the last 5 times we have even played in the state of Texas we have lost.

I bet at Texas they don't have any highly rated, talented players to take the place of those that they lost. And maybe we can convince the NCAA to allow our entire '03 defense (the last competent defense at KSU) to play one game against Texas.

I don't know why some people feel we don't have a chance.

Texas lost a ton of experience losing Studdard, Sendlein, and Blalock to graduation.  Blalock had the most starts of any UT OL in their program's history.  Studdard was a 3 year starter.  All three were starters in the national title season.

Robison and Crowder both graduated at DE.  Robison was a 4 year starter and Crowder started for 3 years.

Secondary lost 3 of 4 starters...Griffin started 3 seasons and both corners have played since their freshman seasons.

Yes, Texas "reloads" and has plenty of talent BUT...

wow, our '03 defense was insanely talented!!  Ted Sims, Jesse Tetuan, Houchin, etc.

We have more talent on the '07 defense than '03.  It doesn't mean we'll play that way but it's not like the '03 defense was just overwhelming people.

LOL t the "I bet at Texas they don't have highly rated(whatever the f that means), talented plaers to ....."   tell me something none of us knew already.  But, like I said, you just throw the talent out on the field and everything works smoothly...that it?

Sometimes I really wonder if J-Mart really pays attention to details such as these, or if he's just really good at digging up quotes and writing stories.   Some people like the drama and some people like the game.  I think J-Mart is a drama guy.

Texas plays very well at home.

They are not unbeatable, but it's a very big climb.

Would you rather have the '03 defense or the current defense?  It's a yes or no answer, and don't break it down by which unit had the better verticals, 40 times, butt muscles....which one performs/performed?

let's stay civil, shall we?

YOU said "performs/performed"...making assumptions about the '07 defense when we have yet to see it.  There are more players off  the '07 defense I'd take over the '03 defense talent-wise.  it doesn't mean they will perform as well...but we don't know that yet.

Personally, they are my rival. They don't even think we should be in the Big 12.

In all fairness, Texas has three bye weeks sandwiched around tcu to prepare for us.  We are going to have to be vastly improved on the O-line and in the middle on D.

Fortunately, Texas is not particularly well-coached so we have a shot, albeit not a good one.

I continue to be surprised for J-Mart's obvious dislike and lack of respect for Prince.  We know there has to be a story there...what's the word, J-Mart?

Nah, no story.

As for Hatter (terrific analysis, by the way) and S-Steve (doing what you do best), well, I'm not buying it. Why would this end up biting me in the ass? Beat writers aren't allowed to have opinions?

As I've said before, I think a whole lot of positive things happened last year for the Wildcats. I'm just factoring the law of averages is all.

Dont forget we hurt McCoy pretty much at the start of the game. Im sure that had a lot to do with it.

Sure you can have an opinion.  Nil is just.... well pretty low considering we haven't seen either team play.  Playing the averages and giving NO chance is not quite the same thing, but I expect that from a self-proclaimed Prince-hater (minor sarcasm intended for dramatic effect).

But how do you know McCoy wouldn't have had an off game? He may have made it worse for Texas by throwing an interception or fumbling. You can never know what lies down the path not taken.

oh yeah

We put up 45 points. THats usually enough to murder someone in div1 aa football. How did McCoy affect that?

He thinks that Prince was a big meanie to some of our old players and coaches and that he has a bunch of dirty laundry to cover up since he never tells him anything.  Doesn't that about sum it up JMart?

To be fair though.  I meet a lot of people in my line of work.  Right or wrong some people just don't seem genuine for some reason or another.  I actually kind of get that vibe from my limited contact with Prince.  Doesn't mean he's not, though.
