Julian Wright was recently measured at a pre-draft camp.

Julian Wright:

Ht (w/o shoes)      6'6 1/2"
Ht (w/ shoes)        6'8 1/2"
Wt                       211
185 bench press     2 reps  (2?? LMAO!!  )
Vertical (max)        33 1/2"  (again, 33.5? LMAO!!  )

Premeditated deception on the part of Bill Self's staff-

Ht 6'8   :blindfold:
Wt 225

Why do they lie like this to the world?  Is it because they are "Jayhawks" and lying and cheating, and misdirection is inherent within them and their nature?

Wow, their S&C person should get Trumped...I was a XC runner at FHSU and I could bench 185 at least 5 times and we didn't have an S&C coach.  I knew some of the S&C programs were exceptionally ordinary -- as we tested those athletes -- imagine how lame their "boot camp" is if a SF/PF can only bench 185 twice.  If I were a betting man, I'd bet DK could match/beat that performance.  But, then again JuJu has a sweet jumper and good handles.  I guess that shows the unimportance of strength.

While BP is not highly used movement (except maybe on D when pushing against someone posting up), but military/incline press is, and they are related.

I'd hope.  That's not even a reasonable warm up weight.   :kugayfight:

I enjoy the fact that our men's basketball (especially) and football web pages are pretty much 873x better than ku's.  How amateurish.

It is a tragedy because now, we have at least an extra month without Cat football until next year. I hate wasting my life away but I can hardly wait until next year.

The top athletes on ku's basketball teams aren't actually very impressive when compared with top athletes accross the nation.  They're very much like Bill Snyder's top athletes in that regard.

In the pros a PF has to be strong and go up against players that have lived in the weight room.  Can you imagine the first time JuJu goes head to head against Tim Duncan or Dwight Howard for a rebound?  It will be like Humpty Dumpty getting broken up...

Explain to us all how the kid has the collective strength of an 8th grader, is 6'6" in height, and has a 33' vertical, can't shoot to save his life, yet somehow is going to make for himself a future at the 4 in the NBA.

I'll have one order of BBIQ please!!!!!!!!!!

Oh that's right, his passes.  He's strong at the power forward passing position and can do little else to help us, sounds like what every NBA GM is looking for, we'll take three of him and an order of chicken fingers.

Well, I have to say that is a very unimpressive bench press total...particularly for a 6'8"...er 6'6" power forward.  Of course most strength and power guys will tell you that the bench press is the most over-hyped strength stat around because it seldom comes into to play...certainly not more than many other muscles.  For instance, leg and hip strength are more important in the post for getting position and holding it.  Out on the floor, there is more a tensile strength type of strength needed, along with quickness...witness all 165 lbs. of Allen Iverson.  Iverson just can't have much of a bench press, but he is extremely quick and is hard to body out because he has the strength and endurance to continually play extremely hard...and with great quickness.

Nonetheless, I am shocked that ku's strength and conditioning coach wasn't able to get this total up significantly given two years at the program and training table.

Yeah, what you said in the first part is true, but you'd think someone who spent two years in a high-level strength program would be able to do better than that, even if he never did a bench press the whole time.

After the revelation that JW has the upper body strength of a 12-year-old girl, it would probably be a good idea for one of you to check on the ego of David Hoskins.

You'd think he would want to hit the weights if for no other reason than to help him propel those bowling balls down the lane at a faster trajectory during league nights.  Speed = pins, kids.

But that's ok.  Fine, you don't need to be able to bench press a lot to be a great NBA player.

However...78 of the 80 players tested from this year's potential draft pool all tested higher than JuJu in this particular area.  78.  80.
