I'm a big blizzard fan myself.

Played D1 for a while casually until this came out, when I started playing religiously.

So much fun.  The "UMS" games were amazing.  Warcraft III bumped it up about 10 notches so you could create almost any game you want with their editor, but it started with starcraft.

Definitely a favorite

Played this in elementary school a lot..

Don't ask me why, but this game was addicting as &*$@!.  I would always see how far/how long I could go without getting eaten by the abonimable snow sasquatch thing.

OMG these games were so hard to figure out when I was 8.

There's more, but I can't think of them right now.

    THE b IS NOT CAPITALIZED
Diablo II was great. I didn't play the first Diablo on pc though.

I'd have to include World of Warcraft simply because of the sheer amount of time I've put in it.

And Oregon Trail obviously.
I'm telling you, this is not ANYTHING like the team from the beginning of conference play. You will see no more blowouts like what happened in OOC.  If we lose, it will not because these kids gave up, and it will be at the buzzer. -Rodless, before 97-70

Don't ask me why, but this game was addicting as &*$@!.  I would always see how far/how long I could go without getting eaten by the abonimable snow sasquatch thing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ski_Free

Once the player has completed his or her run, the game does not abruptly end. Rather, the player continues skiing until he or she encounters an "abominable snow monster" who chases and attempts to eat the skier. From that point on, the player can ski until the monster catches them.

The monster appears at the 2000m mark and pursues the player downhill. Further down the hill (20-30m) another monster also gives chase, but uphill. An angled route while playing in "fast" mode avoids both of them, but afterwards the distance starts counting down from -2000m. The world loops around on itself, and everything outside the boundary of the piste triggers the monster. However, if the player returns within the invisible border, the monster stops.

Other snow monsters appear when the player travels 125m upwards from the beginning or 500m to the left or right.

OMG.  I knew it was possible to avoid that &@#%er.

Oh, God! csourk....  That game was so incredibly bad.  It was pretty good until everyone found out that they eliminated an entire world and chopped off several plot lines just to get it out by a deadline.

It's been a LONG time, but is that the thing that eats you in the dark in old text RPGs?  I think I remember one in planetfall or starfall or hitchikers guide to the galaxy..I was like 9 years old when I played so it's really hard for me to remember.  See the "Lost Treasures of Infocom" pic I posted above.  Trying to find some images or downloads of those CDs but abandonware is actually harder than I thought to find..

That'd be Zork.  And yes I played it.  Now let me mount your avatar.

Yeah, they all pretty much sucked equally, I just happened to remember that one.

I put a Starcross pic above.  That was a fairly difficult Infocom game... at least when I played it.

The Grue was a generic creature that lived in the dark in all/most Infocom games, not just Zork, although it first appeared in the Zork series.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grue_%28monster%29

"The grue, according to scholars of the Great Underground Empire, is a sinister, lurking presence in the dark places of the earth."

It is pitch black.  You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
