Akeem's defense, Cartier's offense, & a DUI.

Everything else was very inconsistant to say the least. Also, with the players we're bringing back & bringing in it doesn't matter if we have Huggs or not because Coach Martin is just going to run Huggs defense/offense. Frank has been working with Huggs for so long he knows Huggs play maybe even better than Bob.

Am I correct???

No.  We're going to be more up tempo.  And Huggins probably got us a few calls last year.

You can't be racist and like basketball.
We did lose that guy with almost 600 wins and replace him with a guy with zero.

Martin said he will trap more.  That's something you don't hear every coach at introductory press conference say.

Yes, I guess if you think about it, it would be nice to bring Jermaine Maybank back because of his size & also being a good role player.

Other than Cartier & Akeem that's the only other player that I would want coming back with Walker, Beasley & the rest of the gang.

Also, otherwise Akeem's offense was absolutely horrid and alot of his shots he took last yearhurt us, mostly with 15+ seconds left on the shot clock & he would just brick it.

Cartier's defense did get better though during the course of the season, mostly during the last couple of games.

Lance kept us in the UT game the first half.

He was ridiculously good that game.

True, Martin won't get as many & if any calls because the refs wont have any respect for him.........atleast not much as Huggs.

And then he dissapeared the second half.  Like usual.......

I forgive him though, because if he doesn't catch fire the first half, we lose by 20.

I think the consensus around here is that we did the right thing, considering the situation.

That said, I think it is WAY oversimplifying things to say that is all we lost.  I think Martin and company will do a good job, but as Rusty pointed out, Huggs doesn't have 600 wins by accident and Martin isn't getting his first shot as a HC by accident.

I think its fairly safe to assume we'll have some success in the win-loss column next year, but I'd be crazy to think we're somehow better off without Huggins as the HC.  With Huggs, the guarantees for maintaining long term success were much greater than what we have now.  To not see that is completely blind homeristic optimism.

Lance would have 1-3 good games a year during his KSU career, other than the 3 per year he was terribly inconsistant.

Usually good games against hometown team Mizzou and some big time Big XII south school.

Huggins played a big role in the recruitment of the #1 class coming in and future classes considering us.  Losing him will hurt our recruiting past 2007.

"Losing him will hurt our recruiting past 2007."

That's a very true statement because I cant see recruits wanting to flock to Manhattan to play for Coach Martin as of right now. But that could change with a great year next year, and looks like that there is a great possibility of that happening.

Also, I was really just talking about what we lose just for next year's season, not for recruiting for next year's class & years to come. But you are 100% correct.

The only way our recruiting can stay how it is (of course not number 1 each year but solid class) is to have Beasley or Walker stay more than one year and to help recruit.  Those guys know a LOT of players of all ages through the summer circuit and just playing each other growing up.  If those guys can bring in a couple guys next year with the idea of playing together, then hopefully that can get the ball rolling for a few more years.

Frank Martin is going to have his moments, good and bad, during the 2007 season. He will make some first-year head coaching mistakes, the fans just have to be ready for that. Hopefully, Martin will also have moments where he rises to the occasion and inspires the players and the team wins a game or two it otherwise shouldn't.
I see recruiting taking a hit over the next year, for a couple or reasons. One, Martin has other responsibilities, and cannot solely focus on the recruiting. Two, recruits may take a "wait-and-see" approach as to whether Martin can coach and develop them for the next level.
If the 2007 season ends positively, NCAA Tourney berth - even a win or two, Martin will have that much more credibility to sell recruits. Even if Beasley and Walker leave, as is suspected they will do, if they have a positive experience, that will go towards solidifying K-State's reputation on the hardwood. Of course, if 2007 goes the other way and players abandon ship, well, K-State is all too familiar with starting over.

i think we'll have a real good indicator with martin's first solo class.  if it's wooly-esque i'll be very nervous.

Wooly's classes varied greatly.

The class of Dez, Martin, Massey, Justin Williams would be good for 80% of coaches out there.  His 2006 would he horrible for 90% of coaches.  The Pasco/Nick Williams/DeJesus and Peete/Stewart/Allen classes were average to slightly below average.

I guess what I'm saying is that it's hard to define a "Wooly-esque" class.

I think your topic would be better expressed as, "Is everyone in agreement that the only thing we keep from last year is Hoskins and a few mediocre d00dz."

a wooly-esque class ends up with one good player that is a great contributor, one good player that bails, and some role players/stiffs.

That's actually pretty much right, except the 2006 class completely sucked.

00 good player that bailed: Richie Terry :)

Heh, I was about to post that.  If Sei had left after one year, it would have been about perfect all 5 years.

also for 00 you could kinda count morrison/reynolds, not wooly recruits, but bailed that year anyway.

harris won some games for us over the last 3 years.  martin (c.) was more important to the success of the team than he is getting credit for in this thread.  maybe the russian kid or some unknown juco will fill the void, but right now we have a huge empty spot at the shooter position next year.

the biggest thing we will miss next year without huggins are the tv cameras.  recruits follow the cameras.  beasley/walker will help somewhat next year, but the cameras mostly follow coaches not players.  martin (f.) should do his best to win and be flamboyant next year.  he'll need something for when beasley moves on.

"these are no longer “games” in the commonly accepted sense of the term. these are free throw shooting contests leavened by the occasional sprint to the other end of the floor."

I forgive him though, because if he doesn't catch fire the first half, we lose by 20.

He hit a couple more threes in the 2nd.  The announcers went from hating him, to ackowledging his pressence, to kissing his ass.  At the begining of the game he made a lay-up on an assist from Hoskins and they only mentioned Hoskins.  After his first few 3's the announcers began to talk about him, then after hitting one in the 2nd half they were like, "Another 3 from you know who!"  He was amazing most of that game.  When he disappered it was for full games?

I still want my cooler, bitches!
