Okay well . . . my 2 pennies on them (and my opinion is probably worth less than that even)
Steve Miller in person could be a real A-Hole. But as crazy as it sounds it was maybe the best person to have as the AD when K-State athletics was in dire straits and needed to turn around football. He wasn't afraid of debt, and he wasn't afraid to ask for things. Hell, at the 1984 Olympics in LA Steve Miller talked with the LA Olympic officials about what they were going to do with the Pole Vault and High Jump mats, and the implement racks . . . and when they said they didn't know, the next we knew all that stuff was at K-State for the price of shipping.
Milt Richards . . . never quite got that, but the irony is, a whole bunch of stuff got done under Milt Richard's watch. The Dev Nelson pressbox, the indoor practice facility and a bunch of stuff to Vanier. Richards also started to get a handle on the little debt issue that Steve Miller created . . . as far as K-State goes, Milt Richards would've been a great associate AD, but never should have been the AD.
Max Urick . . . Max IMO may have been the worst thing to happen to K-State sports. Terrible fund raiser . . . he was just a shop keeper. Did okay with the books, couldn't ask for money to save his soul, tried to take the easy way, and he proved he had no business being an AD when he whined about how the business of college athletics was getting out of control. Of course by this juncture I am guessing having Wefald around was a real pain in the ass as well. Did make the right call in imposing mandatory Ahearn donations for much of KSU stadium.
Tim Weiser . . . In many ways Weiser was very good. He made the right call on the radio deal, he got some facilities disasters shored up, he put together two lucrative sponsorship deals. He put K-State athletics well into the black and built up a solid cash reserve. But you can only polish your pennies for so long in the Big 12. They completely missed the opportunities after the 2003 season. He hiim'd and hawed way to long on the basketball practice facility . . . IMO you can only let the underlings be out front on fund raising for so long. He was a weak voice in allowing the overall university fund raising campaign to control what athletics did. He wasn't a very inspiring guy, and come on, whether Weefer made the final call or not, you know Timmy was all gushed up about hiring a black coach for football. He completely mismanaged the Huggins affair, and didn't have a clue as to how to deal with a guy like Bob Huggins.
Bob Krause . . . again, I completely missed the boat on my opinion of him, I got deluded into thinking that there has to be somebody behind the scenes that made the Weefer look good. I figured he's be a little sleazy to try to get his pet facilities projects done, but he get it done with only minor short term damage to the finances. LOL . . . he could've set K-state back for years with the help of the Weefer.
I could also offer an opinion on Dick Towers and Larry Travis . . . I know you all will be begging to hear it.
