Let's assume for a moment that we DO land Spri (are we going with "Spri" or "Freddy," not sure yet on that :dunno:), and that he doesn't enter the draft this June.
We lose Denis but gain what appears to be a dominant post. I don't think we'll miss Denis nearly as much as we'll benefit from Spri. Mostly, I think our bigs will open things way up for Jake and the young guards. No one is going to trap us on the perimeter and risk not having help inside against our bigs.
I expect us to win the Big 12 next year. I can't believe I just &@#%ing typed that. :'(<----- of joy.

there will be some other really talented teams in the big 12 too. unless everyone bolts. but yeah, next year's team looks significantly better than this year's.
-
Assumnig we land Spri, next year will be the year we'll miss Fred Brown the most. I'm not over fred and I don't think I'll be.

I am wrong in thinking that Rodney can fill this role, eventually? I don't really have any expectation of him being our outside scoring this year, but with a year under his belt is it reasonable to expect that?

I don't think Gruds will ever be that kind of shooter. He's Sutton-ish, I think. Fred was fracking 42% from 3. Martavious shot 44% in HS, we'll see how that translates.

fred sucked, zacker. sheesh.
-
fred sucked, zacker. sheesh.
But he was quickly becoming less and less of a liability on defense which would have made him worth putting on the floor this year.

Is Spradling a good shooter? He's white and he's not real tall...that's what those people are supposed to do, right?

Rodney McGruder is, right now, a much better offensive threat than Fred Brown will ever be. Keep sleeping on Grudz, tho.

Too many variables for anyone to predict the Big 12 in 2010-2011. Let's see how ku/Texas/OU's '10 recruiting classes shake out and who leaves early for the NBA.

Wow. You sound terrified.

You can actually smell the fear eminating from Ben's post.

I'm actually trying to be nice here... doesn't bother me at all if K-State wins a Big 12 title. I just don't see how anyone can make that prediction with so many variables left on the table.

he's not a better shooter than fred.
maybe not quite as consistent was fred was, but his outside shot is fine. he's just a more well-rounded offensive player already as a freshman.

examples of outside shooting start at about the 1 minute mark.

We have had some really big freshman impacts in this league, so I understand your thinking here. But, I'd argue that the majority of titles in this league have been won by teams with veteran talent....teams that largely depended on their veteran talent to win.
So, I see KSU as team that will depend on veterans, who appear to have quite a bit of promise right now. OU will fit that mold, and UT always does, but ku will be very short on veteran talent, relative to what they have had in past years.

great post pete. and rick barnes does a good job of negating any talent he brings into that program so ut should never be in the conversation.

ku would have quite a bit of experience with Reed (senior - unless he redshirts this year), Morningstar (senior), Morris twins (junior), Taylor (junior), and Releford (junior - unless he redshirts this year). Robinson, Johnson, and Withey would be sophs. If ku is able to sign someone like Barnes or Selby, there's no telling how good that team could be. There's also a very, very slim possiblity that Xavier Henry returns for his sophomore year.
Potential starting lineup:
PG - Taylor
SG - Johnson/Releford
SF - Mc. Morris/other
PF - Robinson
C - Mk. Morris

i've heard reports that are saying that Henry is the best player on ku's team, already. that's pretty impressive if true.

I'll be very, very disappointed if Judge, Kelly, Asprilla are not better than Mc Morris/Mk. Morris/Robinson. Taylor is good, and Elijah is reportedly good, but KSU will be very athletic on the perimeter...they may not shoot for crap, but they'll defend.
-
You are going to be surprised at how much the Morris twins have improved. There's a reason why Villanova and Memphis were their other two choices. Thomas Robinson was a consensus top 25 prospect and probably could have been top 10. Think Tyrus Thomas with a jumpshot. ku will also have a 7'0 shot blocker in the post in Withey. As for athleticism on the perimeter... Mc. Morris, Johnson, Taylor, etc. are all plenty athletic.

I don't want to sound like a McGruder lackey or anything, but do any of you remember when he came and played with wally and the dc assault in the first Manhattan Classic? The final game 3 minutes left down by a huge amount and he decided to take the game into his own hands from outside, and was accurate and not afraid to stand up and hit the big shot, down as much as they were they only ended up losing by a few points thanks to the eliteness that is McGruesome, I think you all will be really surprised at what he will bring to this team, he may not be ready to start but I think he could be good off the bench like Cartier had to be when Walker took over the starting roll!

Grud was even better than that during the bball camps this summer. Wally and the frosh were GOOD -- the only one holding them back was Jordan. 'Ta was money from outside. Frank has set himself up nicely from the recruiting debacle he was presented with (no talent from Soph -- > Sr).
Curtis, Jamar, Dom, Jake, Wally, Grud will be crazy good -- basically this yrs team with more experienced bigs and the same talent at the guards -- older JP & Grud = JP & DC now.

I really think you full of crap on this one.
What am I missing here? Judge was rated significantly higher than Robinson by EVERY rating service. So you say that Morris has improved? Well, Curtis Kelley, former 5 star who had "issues" at UCONN has had a year to practice in Frank's system and &@#%ing transform his body in Greenawalt's routine...and is by all accounts a changed player. Finally you have either the other Morrise twin or your transfer Whithey....and we have Freddy Asprilla who is getting his dick sucked by every coach in the country right now as he evaluates where he'll be next year, kid who had an amazing frosh year with NO help around him.
What am I missing?
-
You're forgetting JamSam and Jordan Henriquiz (sp), who Frank said showed up much better than he thought he'd be.
-
not to rain on the emaws here, but bmw is completely correct, ksu is not going to be more talented than ku in 2010-2011. no matter who ku loses or doesn't lose after this season.
fortunately, we've got the coaching edge, so it should be a great matchup. just like back in the fabled hartman-owens days.

Pete, like I said, the Morris twins have improved a ton since last season. Marcus had added 23 pounds of muscle while Markieff has added 34 pounds. Markieff dropped in three 3-pointers in the Late Night scrimmage. I just think you're going to be surprised at how versatile and improved these guys are. Also, Thomas Robinson is the real deal. I'd be surprised if he stayed all four years at ku. I'm not saying that Judge, Kelly, and Asprilla won't ultimately be the better trio, but I think you're under-estimating ku's talent a little bit.

I respect your evaluation of those guys, I really do. It's just that if the "rankings" hold, it doesn't seem like either side should be materially better than the other.
You guys have a few "extras" to throw in with Withey and Little, and we have a few "extras" with JamSam and Dom.
Probably it will come down to your guards being able to shoot and ours not being able to shoot.....again. :curse:

There is no way Tyshawn stays past this year. Also tall white guys without any muscle do not scare me in the least bit. Kansas is always going to be more talented. Self is one of the best recruiters in the game. But it is ridiculous to think this debate has some merit. The transformation is incredible. If kstate is able to land another point guard and talented forward it is a scary scary team next year.

If you replaced "pounds" with "IQ points" then I think you'd have something. These guys are dumbstick basketball players. Adding weight isn't going to get them to the right places on the floor or get them to stop punching people.
