Garrett Stutz from KC. "Sleeper", but visiting Kentucky for Midnight Madness.

Garrett said he might also visit Marquette as one of his official visits, while other schools likely to get an official or unofficial visit were Kansas, SMU, Iowa State, Nebraska, Kansas State, Wichita State, Missouri State and Saint Louis.
thats an interesting list.

A little more:
The College Coaches Network blog says he's a "big body and long. Keeps ball up. Soft touch. Great mits. Huge upside! Mobile."
And ESPN.com says he's "rapidly improving. His greatest asset lies in his knowledge of the game. He understands the nuances of the low post game (sealing, re-posting, passing out of the post, screening angles). Garrett finishes effectively around the basket with either hand."

i have a hard time believing in sleepers.

I believed in sleepers until the following happened.
Canby
DaBarossa
Afeli
Diarra
Kent
Yearby
Richards

Add "stays out of foul trouble and isn't s**thouse crazy" and he's the anti-Bennett.

Tyler Hughes clone

Tyler Hughes was better than any of our posts last season.
Not even close.

While true, that is no solid evidence for believing in sleepers.

Frank Richards wasn't a sleeper.

Would Massey qualify as a sleeper?
-
Would Massey qualify as a sleeper?
Larry Reid probably would, too.
I'd rather have the McDAA's, though.
^Bold statement
-
Would Massey qualify as a sleeper?
no, he was highly thought of for a california juco.
-
I know some name schools showed interest in Richards, but who offered him?
He was previously committed to Ohio U.
-

NC State

Did Massey go JUCO because of grades? If not, he still qualifies as a "sleeper".
-
I know some name schools showed interest in Richards, but who offered him?

NC State
He didn't even visit NC State.
But I guess that somehow makes him not a sleeper.

He had one scheduled, but committed to KSU first. He was 4 stars (!) on Rivals, 3 stars on Scout.

Most Jucos that sign early aren't usually "sleepers" (Massey included). Lots of good Jucos have to sign late.

he went juco to improve his offers. he was qualified out of hs. he was a sleeper in hs, but not as a juco recruit.
-
When a guy is a 3/4 star JUCO, and KSU is his best/only offer, which of the following is more likely.
He's a sleeper, and the ranking services were off.
He's a stud, the ranking services were on, and every good coach in America was just off.
Sleeper = big schools not interested = Frank Richards.
-
When you trust offer lists from Rivals databases, you're an idiot.
So, Stutz = Hughes - RSO?
-
I can't see offer lists from Rivals.
But nice strawman.
Keep thinking KSU stole Richards away from legit programs. It will amuse me until Saturday.
-
Rusty, is this a guy you would "LOL" at if it were a ku recruit?

Where are you getting your offer list from? And LOL @ you throwing in a straw man in that post.
Rusty, is this a guy you would "LOL" at if it were a ku recruit?
Yeah, definitely. Did you see where he was at ku's pickup game Monday? *Edit: That was so funny I forgot to LOL*
-

ku recruits elite players to their elite program. Of course this dude is an LOL (for ku).
-
lol at ku and stutz. also lol at thinking bossi is objetive when it comes to releford.

Kentucky board says he could be a 4 star?

You couldn't have been following recruiting very much at the time if you considered Richards a sleeper at the time of his recruitment. He was just as touted as Stephon Hannah or Blake Young out of JUCO. NC State wanted him bad. Granted, the other main players were Auburn and Butler, but its not uncommon for Top 20 JUCO players to list a variety of schools. Richards wasn't a "can't miss" JUCO recruit, there are only a couple of those a year, but he was certainly he was more than a sleeper. There is no doubt that Richards didn't even come close to living up to his billing out of JUCO. If I remember right, BP was very high on Richards coming out of JUCO.
The only other guys that could really be considered sleepers on your list are DaBarrosa and Yearby. By that I mean that at least one recruiting service reportedly said that they were guys people were missing on. The rest of those guys would be more project recruits than sleepers.
-
Also, this guy really doesn't compare to any of the other "sleepers" mentioned because he grew 5 inches between his sophomore and junior summers. I mean, the guy went from no interest from anyone in April to setting up a Kentucky visit in August.
Most of the guys listed were consistently borderline recruits that got signed late to fill spots.
-
Also keep in mind who is recruiting for uk now. Smith seemed to go after more high end recruits there, and if Gillispie's recruiting at aTm is any indication, he's going to go after guys with rankings, but also guys he thinks will "fit" his program and style. I expect he'll recruit a few more guys that might not be Top 100 kids (and their fans probably won't like it), but I think he'll get some pretty good kids.
I suppose our last guy you might consider to be a true sleeper would be Hoskins.

Strawman? You saying I tossed out an offer list is the strawman in this discussion. I did no such thing, in fact, I asked who had offered him.
Why is it when you're pressed on any issue you trot out your strawman defense?
At best you have Ohio and NC State offering, though I haven't seen anything that says NCST did offer. Yet you think that qualifies him as a non-sleeper.
Hilarious. Really.

It is mentioned on rivals and it was all over a Raleigh newspaper at the time. NC State wanted him bad and Wooly won out. Besides, its not uncommon for Top 20 JUCOs to have a couple of majors and mix of mid-majors on their lists. JUCO kids go places for all kinds of reasons.
All we are saying is that Richards > sleeper. I don't know why this is a big deal.

I never saw that NC State offered him, just know that he never visited. And as Rusty said, LOL at Rivals offer lists.
And that still seems an awfully low hurdle to clear to be considered not a sleeper.

You're just arguing semantics. Comparing this Stutz kid to Frank Richards is borderline retarded. There is really no comparison between the two at all in terms of how they were "overlooked" in recruiting. Stutz doesn't even have a freaking Rivals profile yet, and didn't have a scout profile until yesterday. Hell, he wasn't even good enough to play with his current AAU team in the Price Chopper Invitational last summer...Frank Richards, on the other hand, signed a freaking D1 letter of intent 2 years before he committed to us, had 4 stars next to his name on Rivals, and had multiple visits to BCS schools planned before his final season.
See the difference?
Oh, BTW. LOL @ your multiple straw men in that post. "Pressed at any issue"?
-
I never compared Stutz to Richards.
I said I consider Richards a sleeper due to the lack of interest from good basketball schools.
LOL at your "Comparing this Stutz kid to Frank Richards" strawman.
So do you think a player that receives interest from Ohio, KSU and NCST, and only takes one visit is a sleeper or not?
-
Edit:
Never mind. This is the most retarded argument ever.

I've noticed that straw-man has become the new "it" word at ksufans.com. I'm going to make an effort to use it in my personal life to the same extent it is being used on these boards. My conversations will go like this:
Wife: How was your day
Me: Straw man
Wife: What
Me: Nice straw man, straw man
