If I was hired AD:
- Keep OB as the face of the program to keep the fans and shirt tucks happy and keep the money flowing.
- Hire Mike Leach as OC
- Hire Matt Wallerstedt as DC
- Hire Frank Wilson as Recruiting Coordinator (offer him some big buck)
- Fill out the staff with some young assistants
- Schedule some opponents like USC, Miami, Arizona, Washinton, etc. to establish the program in those markets and gain some exposure
- Tell OB to pick up the phone and start calling all of our boosters and giving them some sh*t about how we need money to take the program to the next level, and pimp the hell out BSFS
Prince already tried this. This will do nothing but hurt our program.
That's pure dumbcactery. There are plenty of benefits to playing high-profile games on TV.
Its not a high-profile game if you suck. Does anyone care about the interleague match-up between the Royals and Philllies? No.
Furthermore, even if KSU was good we still couldn't compete with the out of conference games that happen now. Ohio State vs. USC, Virginia Tech vs. Alabama, etc, etc, A good KSU never garners that type of attention that these teams bring one another. And lets assume we get more "exposure" in these markets. It still won't bring a kid out of the state. They are entrenched.
We are better of scheduling the Minnesota, Kentucky, Iowa's of the world. Games that will still get a national tv audience, a good chance of being a competitive game and maybe actually recruiting a kid who doesn't see much of a difference between St. Paul, MN and Manhattan, KS.
