It’s supposed to be cloudy a few days and even rain a day this coming week and I am NOT happy about it :curse:

Do you guys have basements?
yeah.  unfinished and stone foundation.

I have an unfinished Michigan style basement. That's one that was originally a crawl space then they later put in a walk-in basement.

that is wild, where do you live?

Great Lakes region.

Does anybody know the weather in Tuscon right now?  I haven't seen DBT update in over 20 minutes which has to be some type of record.

The good thing about the weather here in Kansas is that after months of gray frigid weather in a place where you can't ski, it will soon be 95 degrees with 95% humidity and clouds of hazy corn pollen filling the air.

it would blow my entire mind to watch people with handlebar mustaches using leather tools and steam engines and crap try to excavate below an existing house foundation, like what on earth. and the frost depth in michigan is like four feet

DFW facing 8 days of the most significant winter weather it has seen since the Super Bowl at Jerryworld 10 years ago.  4+ days without getting above freezing and mix in some winter precip and baby we got a delicious winter smoothie.  My body is ready.

As a selfish note, this is a potential huge revenue driver for my pool business.  Pools do not get winterized here for the most part.  “Freeze protection” is a thermostat kicking pumps on to make sure they are circulating water to prevent freezing and the damage that occurs when that happens.

For the most part, freeze protection generally kicks on about 10 times a year in the middle of the night or day for a handful of hours.  But 4+ days straight, all I am seeing is $$$.

Any sort of leak at the equipment pad already is going to cause problems as equipment can freeze from the outside inward at these temps for this duration, even while running.  Mix in potentially some winter precip and power outages and all hell can break lose.  A really cold hell, but still.

Less than a block visibility, approaching white-out.  This is the stuff I dream off and have not seen since moving from Kansas ~20 years ago.

Also, out snowfall Tuesday-Wednesday is supposed to be even bigger than this one.

You seem ecstatic. Not a care in the world for how my various servants will manage to replenish my larder, cavern, and pantry. What about my servants, AST?!?

That is why I am a poor.  I only have to worry about my own and am not burdened about the welfare of my servants.

Another 8-12 inches of snow in Chicago tomorrow. At this point it’s going to be 3-4 feet since late January without a significant melt

Has it not started yet? I'm nearby and it's snowing right now. Snow through the night, the morning and again tomorrow night.

And the rolling blackouts have begun.  House temp dropped 8 degrees in 25 minutes in spite of having all new exterior walls and attic insulation.

It was fun until this crap started and now I am out.

That really sucks, but you should also direct your anger at Texas being Texas and deciding that having their own grid for the sake of being Texas was/is a bad idea.

When we hit the 20s it'll feel like a warm day.

Source: me spending -40s in Canada then hopping on a plane to here in the 20s. It's not as big of a change but still, 20s are alright.

Yes, it really sets us up for failure when there is a winter storm warning covering the entire state for the first time ever occurs...

Maybe we will be better prepared when the 2nd time ever occurs!
