I think we're just an average team.  :dunno:

Maybe, but i see us as average due to oscillations between good and bad.  In the end it doesn't matter much, though but I hold out hope we can smooth out the valleys. :dunno:

The TOs make me the most worried this will not get fixed.

Maybe. But all that does is make it more frustrating. I have zero expectations for this team. Just very average/mediocre whatever the reason.

turnovers & d can be fixed.  rebounding too, to an extent.

but without kelly playing like the end of last year, the ceiling is pretty low on this team.  kelly changes things (or could, if he ever plays well again).

Fast break points FT rate.  2 hallmarks of last year's team that we just aren't very good at, without Denis we don't have many easy points in transition and we aren't drawing enough fouls.

PG problems and TOs.  Have to rely on a guy who is going to be inconsistent and the young guys haven't transitioned well.  Combo-guard rotations work well when you have at least one that has some high quality PG skills and we don't have that.

All-league players haven't been all-league players.  We were expecting Pullen and Kelly to play like they did in March; too often Pullen is playing like he's still with Mike and Bill and Kelly is playing like he still plays for UConn.  Then we needed another all-league player to develop, most expected Judge and it just hasn't happened.  As has been said, McGruds is the only player showing marked improvement and that's not enough to offset the other problems.

Fast break points.

i'm amazed at how far kstate has fallen off here.  people can say that the team misses clemente all they want, but 346 other teams didn't have clemente, and most of them still somehow manage a few points in transition now and again.

We'll see.  I'm hopeful this team can be similar to Frank year 2.  I'm not sure though.  If McGruds and maybe Samuels take control of the team and Pullen accepts that (who knows about Kelly) its possible.  But the dreams of even repeating last year, let alone winning the league, are dead.  Sad to be dead this soon.

win in CoMo and you're right back in the hunt provided you go 6-0 against unl, cu, isu.  mu looked very, very pedestrian today.  Anderson's system is susceptible provided the guards take care of the ball (it seems that's been an issue w/ your team though).  Didn't see much of your game but it sounds like you just gave it away midway through the 2nd.  Curtis Kelly coming back and helping out what seems to be a non-existent front court offense should alleviate some of the bleeding that took place today.  It doesn't get any easier here on out so you might as well just get better....

Simple, our guards are poor at pushing the ball and we don't seem to run in transition well consistently.

Shocking they suck?   :ck:

We are mediocre because Frank Kruger decided he didn't want to go out and recruit anybody.

The last 2 Elite Eight runs in K-State basketball history have been followed by mediocre at best play, mainly because the coaching staff pretty much put together cac recruiting classes after the classes that enabled the Elite 8 runs .  .  . it looks like Frank Kruger is following suit in fine form.

I may too be far of an optimist. I may just want to love this team. I may be a lot of things. I don't think anything is dead yet though. I don't see anywhere that we are mumped or can't improve upon. (I'm not saying that we will, but to assume we are dead on hopes is saying that their are areas that cannot be fixed.)

We just seem to hit and miss. Some nights everything is rolling and some nights we are very one sided. Maybe we are a bad team, maybe we haven't even formed a team yet. I see the latter, but am not so blind to possibility of the former. By bad team, I mean middle of the pack big 12 by our recent standards.

It just appears we have a bunch of guys trying to fill multiple holes depending on personnel that is in the game. We don't have, aside from guys with limited skill sets, guys that have defined roles. We have people jumping around and trying to and having to be different things at different times in the game. Maybe good teams can do this and do this well, and that is where we fail. But I feel there is not certainty. There is nothing to count on. We have multiple guys that can step up and take charge and be counted upon, but never on a game to game basis. That is where this team lacks, and i feel this is where they lack only. I will get offline, because I'm curious to see what people have to say about this.

With Clemente, team didn't have to share the ball on a fast break. It was just him dribbling pell mell up the floor.
Now they don't share the ball or fill lanes well on the break. Usually, the dribbler tries to take it to the basket.

Wasn't McG a 4-star? Or are you counting him as a forward?
