Good point.  Maybe they'll transfer to the same school.

Younger bro is Cory Joseph, now running the point for Texas.

The elder Joseph is intriguing from the standpoint that he's proven to be a decent scorer at the high major level and scoring from the backcourt appears to be a big area of need for next year's team.

Last I knew, we had some cursory interest in Class of '11 Todd Mayo, who basically fits that same description as Joseph of a scoring combo G who might be better suited at the 2. Just from an experience point of view, Joseph would probably be much more ready to step in and play right away, although he wouldn't eligible to play until the 2nd semester of next year.(Mid-December '11).

And then of course, there's the ever-present scolly crunch, we'll just have to let it all shake out.

While we're at it, here's another undersized 2 guard potential mid-season transfer who we were recruiting out of HS(briefly). For the record, I'd be much more in favor of adding Joseph as opposed to this dude, but, hey, we'll see what happens.

clemente was more or less kicked off the team.  his transfer was logical.  kelly finished his soph year and got little playing time in his two years with little prospect for increased time.  his transfer was logical.

joseph was getting 25 minutes/game as a jr on a decent team with a great coach.  he now is looking to go god knows where to sit out a year and then play for just a single semester.

franklin started most of his games as a freshman under a great coach at a great school.  he had every prospect of being a four year starter if he stayed.  instead he leaves after a single semester.

neither of those transfers is logical.

seriously?  you can't distinguish between either having no option other than to leave, or leaving to upgrade your prospects vs. voluntarily leaving a good situation, almost certainly for a downgraded situ?

So Clemente wasn't a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) for being "more or less kicked off the team"(your words, not mine)?

Was Kelly not a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) for being a lazy bastard and basically pissing away an opportunity to play at a high-profile school like UCONN?

And how do you know if it was a good situation for either Joseph or Franklin? I mean really, how the hell do you know?  All we know is what was going on the surfuace, the APPEARANCE. Sometimes things just don't work out for people in certain situaitons. Sometimes it''s their own damn fault, sometimes not but can you condemn anyone whose primary desire is to seek out a better situation for himself?

i'm categorizing their decision to transfer, not them as people, or any of their decisions prior to transferring.

re. how we know their situs - we can only go by the available info and logical inferences based on it.  which tells us that whatever relationships they had with their coaches, they weren't so bad that the coaches wouldn't play them.  and neither coach has a rep as being difficult to play for in general.

we can also view their situs and realize that joseph isn't going to go anywhere that's better.  he's a good, but not great high-major guard with one semester of eligibility.  that's not particularly attractive to anyone except programs that could never normally get a player that good, or those with a dire 1 year pg gap.  and among those, he's further limited to programs with a spare ship this year.

franklin, as a freshman, is more attractive, and will have more choices, but he'll still lose a full year of eligibility.  he's not going to go anywhere that's better for 2.5 years than cal is for 3.5 years.

even if their situs have some hidden element that rationally makes staying untenable, each is a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) for leaving at the semester.  they lose a year of eligibility and gain nothing.  in franklin's case, i think you can also argue that 1 semester isn't enough time to evaluate his situ at cal, and he should wait another semester for that reason as well.

You guys are stupid.

1) Iowa State already has two canadians. (Vanderbeken, Ejim)

2) Iowa State is emerging as the new Transfer U

3) Our winter is just like Canada.

4) This guy:

Suck it. He's ours.
