sd addition:  The old "Oz" Fests that weren't connected to the white trashy "Ozz" Fests but were instead KStateo versions with non-white trash bands.  I think I saw, like, Marcy Playground, Sugar Ray, Smashmouth, misc other basically one hit 90s alt/pop bands.

Gravity Kills?  Sponge?  Also, that one loser band that sang the song about two princes or princesses or some crap.  I remember people sitting down and booing them.  Ah, Spin Doctors.  Just remembered.  God they were awful.

Oh man, Sponge, forgot about them.  I went through a stage that was about 3 months long where Sponge was my favorite band.

Me too.  I never liked them until that show.  Then I loved them for a while.  Still listen to them every once in a while.

Matchbox Twenty, Everclear, & Lifehouse in 2000. Amazing concert. Even if Everclear couldn't perform on account of food poisoning. I don't know if you guys have been in Kansas Coliseum in a while but just looking at it right now.......it's total crap. Don't know how big acts even went there (NCAA men's basketball tournament was there as well - the Fab Five were sent there).

Concert #2:

Jawbreaker
Ween
Foo Fighters

eff, I would love this show today.

Only concert I went to in Wichita was Tool in the summer of 2002. Drove down from KC and hung out at the Colosseum from noon onwards. Talked to Danny Carey's parents (they are from Paola) and then got front row on the railing. The railing kept popping during the show, thought there was going to be an accident. One of Mike Patton's million bands opened and everyone hated them, typical Tool crowd.

Next:

EyeHateGod
Deftones
White Zombie
Pantera

at the Coliseum.  This was the first one I attended without a parent.  Had a sweet uniform shirt and chain wallet...I went as "Rod" from Interstate Batteries.

Got in during the middle of EyeHateGod.  They sucked.

Deftones:  Loved them at that age.  Bought their CD immediately after the show.

During the intermission between Deftones and White Zombie, I had a discussion about how shitty the music they were playing between sets was.  (I was such a little shithead).  She was messed up out of her mind and informed me that the music was from the greatest drummer of all time, Mickey Hart.  Who gives a eff.  I also worked my way up to the very front against the railing.  Also chatted up a security guy who was wearing his Oklahoma high school football state championship ring.  I was impressed.

White Zombie:  They were cool.  Felt the heat from their fireworks and crap.  It was during White Zombie that the crowd started to get a little crazy.  I had to leave the railing.  The Mickey Hart girl looked like she was about to pass out.  Back amongst the masses, I began encountering the mosh pits, filled with 300 pound skinheads that looked like they want to kill everyone.  I also crowd surfed at this time, which was rough ridin' awesome, and something I will never do again.

At the end of White Zombie, they released a bunch of confetti.  Rumors were floating that they contained hits of acid.  I did not lick any confetti.

Pantera:  I hadn't really heard any of their music, because it didn't get played on their radio.  Really, this is who the skinheads and crazy fuckers came to see.  The kind of guys who thought they sold out with "Great Southern Trendkill" <-seriously, they thought they sold out with this.  I just remember a blur of loudness and elbows and crap, with Anselmo, who seemed ridiculously wasted, only paused to drink Jack Daniels from the bottle and tell fans to start beating the crap out of each other and stop waiting for him to "light his dick on fire" (I think this was a shot at White Zombie).

Good times.

This was one of the best concerts I have ever seen in Wichita. Zombie stole the show which really pissed off Phil from Pantera. He bitched the entire set.

Was here.  Hated Matchbox20 and Lifehouse.  They kept saying they weren't going to refund the money for people who came for Everclear until Rob Thomas came out and said they would.  I guess it put enough pressure on them to get me my money back.

Saw Everclear later at the Cotillion.  American Hi-Fi opened for them.  They were bad but it was awesome in a totally 90s way.

Have had many glorious moments inside the Kansas Coliseum that didn't involve the Wichita Wings

Aerosmith - 1990.  My first concert!  Black Crowes opened

Bad Company/Damn Yankees - 1991.  Great show, Ted Nugent busted out his bow and shot a flaming arrow into Saddam's throat.  A plywood cutout, not the real Saddam.

Ozzy - 1992.  The No More Tours Tour, lol.  Alice In Chains ,  plus the opener was Sepultura, a weird Brazilian speed metal band.

Def Leppard - 1993

Moved up to Manhattan in 94 so haven't able to make it down to the Mausoleum very much since then

Seems like I'm forgetting a couple, but those were just at the Coliseum.  Cotillion was awesome, West Bank Stage, Century II.  Wichita had it going on

Was one of the best for me in Wichita, too.  Forgot to mention the White Zombie video that was some sort of random Japanese porn that had a girl shooting fire out of her vagina.  Was awesome.

George Strait came to the Scott County Fair before I was born.

Rumor has it that Rush played at the 3-I building in Garden City back in the 70's. :gocho:

KISS in '96 (?) and some opening act I don't even think I was in the Colosseum to see. I promise my concert resume is better in KC, Lawrence, and MHK

I could've got a refund? :horrorsurprise:

Do you remember that crazy bitch that ran on stage and tackled Rob Thomas? I remember that like it was yesterday, and I was 10! :horrorsurprise: :emawkid:

I sprinted to the exit as soon as I heard a refund was possible.  The only reason we stayed that long was because my ride refused to leave until he could flip off rob thomas.  Turned out paying off

Concerts are a HUGE "meh."

I used to go in the olden days.  Now, it's just loud non-sense that drones on forever.....I'm looking at you Widespread Panic.   :jerk:

Damn, white people.

My first real concert was also at the Kansas Coliseum.  Brandy opened for Boyz II Men in 1995, this was Brandy's first tour and her first album and after Boyz II Men released II.  Fantastic concert.  I also saw Nickleback (free tickets) at the KC.  Saw Mike Jones at the Cotillion, he stood by the door at the end of the show and talked to people as they were leaving, and finally DMB at Intrust, meh.

ks farm kids GAF about wichita concerts I can assure you.

Never went to Wichita in my high school years. Way too far away. Once stopped there and ate at Spangles on the way home from a grade school math contest (<--blerd cred). I did, however, go to the Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa.
"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."

My college roommate remains outraged at the public reception of Nathan Michael Shawn Wanya and has linked it (as a cultural indicator) to 9/11.

elite days in SW KS were days when T95 out of Wichita would come in on our radios and we could listen to something that wasn't Adult Contemp. Top 40s/Country/Christian/Rush Limbaugh.  Oh man, those were the days (usually cloudy).  We all tried installing those FM signal booster things but they never worked.

omg, yes

Sometimes we'd get 107.3 kkrd on my way to school.  Don't remember ever getting T95, but it was fun mocking K95 out of Dodge.  "All the hits, without hard rock or rap."  Or "hit after hit after hit, the most music, K95"

Any brotha from Philly is going to be hard, just a fact of life.  Motown did a great job of molding them into what the general public wanted young black men to be.  The Mike & Shawn feud is pretty funny/sad.
