Excuse me for using a women's basketball player as an example, but former KSU guard Laurie Koehn had the habbit of practacing all hours of the day and night and would shoot upto 800 three point attemps a day.  The result was she set the all-time NCAA record for tree pointers made at 392.   It would be nice if some of our current K-State men had a touch of Laurie's determination and persaverance when it comes to free throw shooting.

Think she would come as FT/ O Coordinator?  I mean she IS the reigning 3 point champ at K-State!

Agree.  The fans I sat next to apparently don't think our guys ever shoot free throws in practice.

They need to concentrate at the line and stop just walking up and flinging the ball as soon as the ref hands it to them.  Anyway I bet Stone Cold Steve Henson could teach them a thing or two.



Also I think Ozarkscat is on to something there.  Jamar is clearly too busy tweeting about girls he wants to do to actually practice free throws.

alot of our guys shooting technique is atrocious, Freddy and  Wally are the worst.  For the love of God get your elbow under the ball with wrist lined up and flick the muthaeffer in.
Freethrows should be missed long or short not left or right.

I'm interested in a discussion on what the art of screaming accomplishes.   I'm being serious as a heart attack.
I really want to know what screaming can accomplish that other methods can not?

I can understand screaming whenever there is great background noise and one needs to shout in order to be heard.

I can understand the raising of a voice in order to get ones attention.  Let me give you an example.
Pretend I have a six year old child and I catch him sticking a knife into an electrical outlet.  I might raise my voice for emphasis; to get his attention so he or she will realize the danger in doing such a thing.  I might even choose a spank across the rear for emphasis.  You see, the child has a choice in this matter.  He is free to choose to continue sticking the knife in the outlet or he can choose not to do so.  My emphasis will be used in order to emphasize the danger of doing so.

But let's suppose, I don't catch my six year old in time and he sticks the knife in there and receives a jolt.   If I began screaming at him or her, what would this accomplish?   The child is not going to do this again because it leads to great discomfort.  My screaming, at this point, is meaningless.

Consider basketball.    Is there a player who wants to make a bad pass?   Is there a player who wants to let his man score?     If a player throws the ball away, what will screaming at him accomplish?  Will it make him not want to throw the ball away even more?   I can guarantee you that any player would rather ran take a strap across the back than throw the ball away in front of a crowd of fans.  What does screaming accomplish, that a sit on the bench and a talking to about why the ball was thrown away, won't?

Does getting screamed at make one more manly?   Tough?

I'm not against a coach raising his voice here and there for emphasis but doesn't constant screaming tend to make the technique ineffective?
