A shot at trying to measure the Junkyard in the JYCs using stats: http://goEMAW.com/blog/?p=502

Good read, _FAN.

Watching this year's version of the JYC, for me, is like watching Major League 2 and seeing Rick Vaughn step out of the limo in a suit instead of his leather jacket.  It's like this year's JYC are about trying to "look" like a Top 5 team instead of playing like they did to get there.

Anyway, a much more simplistic take than your well drawn out analysis.

I think with this basketball team, like most things K-State, their JYChood has been stolen by the collective pants jizzing at the first sign of K-Stateo near glory.

Or Omar Epps stepping out instead of Wesley Snipes.

I've saved that analogy for Asprilla/Colon.

Like Epps, Asprilla is a less badass replacement.

We're better defensively.  Actually, we're a lot better defensively, but the lack of transition (Denis) has hurt us badly by severely limiting the amount of easy transition buckets.  The block numbers may be down slightly, but as you said, the opponent FTrate is down, and contrary to popular goEMAW belief fouling is bad.  Frank has said so himself and he would prefer us to play aggressive defense without fouling.

We definitely need to get to the line more, especially with the right players, but as our team learns to play together and becomes smoother on offense I think we will get to the line more often.  I was whining on Saturday at how nothing looks easy on offense for the Cats.  I've probably been saying the same thing every year.  And at this point in the season it is true, but every year we seem to progress offensively, thus getting more easy looks and foul opportunities.  Teams don't miss shots because they are bad shooters(to an extent), everyone in NCAA basketball can shoot if they are open and have easy looks.  Teams that shoot a percentage that is similar to the amount of easy looks and open shots their offense generates.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Yes, but I think there is something to be said about good fouls and bad fouls and agressive defense.  What Frank really doesn't like are fouls from the perimeter, namely handchecking, b/c players aren't moving their feet and have bad position.  And he doesn't like late fouls in the paint b/c of poor rotation.  But agressive fouls where we are trying to make a play and are in good position are fine, and the way we play we are going to have some of those.  While I think overall our defense has been fine, I havne't seen as much of the attitude of trying to exert our will on opponents, and sometimes that means fouls, especially hard fouls.  At least not consistently.

Definitely, those are the type of fouls that are always good.  I've always thought that if you foul in the paint and the player gets an "and 1" you aren't doing your job.  Basically, play aggressive, in-your-face defense without fouling.  Unless fouling is the only way to prevent an easy bucket, then foul and foul hard.  I'm also an advocate of playing rough earl to set a tone (ala starting Luis).
