HBBIQ Question (not kenpom related)
« on: December 18, 2010, 06:14:03 PM »
What was the adjustment that Billy made at 20-9 that we apparently had no answer for? (I'll probably be a bit dissapointed if the answer is, "got his guys to try harder.")

They didn't do much different other than attacking some off the dribble a bit more.  Then we quit hitting shots and eventually that led to playing bad defense and eventually poor effort.  The thing snowballed, but it started with us missing shots and not finding ways to get over it.

See MU last year at home for a similar situation where we adjusted and found a way to win.

When did they get out of their god awful half court offense and start trying to score in transition?  And when did they start trying to exploit our overpursuing defense with backdoor cuts?  And when did they both pick up the pressure on defense and extend it to full court?  Was that about when they started kicking our asses?

When we quit hitting shots. When you miss 24 out of 25 shots or whatever we missed you are going to allow opportunities for transition and the opponent is going to pick up some energy.

He's a good coach, I won't deny that. And he certainly did some things well, I'm not beyond giving credit where its due.  But I thought a lot of our problems were self inflicted too.

I mean they only scored 57 points.   I'm wondering what they did to bring our offense to a halt.  double the post, play more zone, etc.

Nothing they didn't try to do the first 10 minutes really. FL is a good defensive team, but we flat out missed a lot of shots.

If this is your take I wonder why you seem to be taking this tough

I didn't like our effort in the 2nd half. We let missing shots get to us more than I expect from a Frank team.

Fair enough, I still can't be bothered.  Things like that are going to happen, especially considering what Frank demands/what we're used to seeing.  It's no where close to a trend so, meh.  I fully anticipated this to happen at WSU, it happened two weeks later, my feeling is the same.
