Maybe I'm really stupid and don't understand this stuff, but wouldn't it be a positive thing for Venables future coaching career if he were mentioned as a candidate at Miami?

The first few times, yes.  After a while there develops a pattern of him being passed over that may affect his desirableness.  Not to us, of course; but to others.
