OT about being a kansas though, how many times do you get asked about dorothy and stuff when you're in new york or cali or somewhere? too many really. i'm always like "oh wow. that's a pretty good one. first time i've ever heard it. good job."

OT about being a kansas though, how many times do you get asked about dorothy and stuff when you're in new york or cali or somewhere? too many really. i'm always like "oh wow. that's a pretty good one. first time i've ever heard it. good job." 

Although I'm annoyed by the question, I try not to let on, because you know that's not polite, and politeness is what the midwest is built on.  Ussually I play it off and say something like "Yeah Dorothy is my great Nana, we still have the ruby slippers at my house!   "  Whoever I'm talking to usually enjoys a nice laugh with me and knows I'm just joshin' around!

lol. no it's not. it's more fun to laugh at the people who think they are laughing at you. was once in vegas at some kind of food court and someone was getting chinese food. some older ladies were in front of us and were rolling that we were from kansas. one was "i bet you don't have places like this there do you?" and i was all "what? mall foodcourt chinese restaurants? nope. sure don't. this is really something."

I told a waitress in Baltimore I was from Kansas and she asked me if I drove a tractor.  I said, sure do, it's parked at the airport in Kansas right now.  I'll drive it home tonight.  She said, "cool!!!".
