Here's when losing Kennard won't be a big deal . . . WHEN and only WHEN 2 very high quality Juco DT's sign on the line that is dotted, that will be in school and in camp ready to play football this fall . . . until that happens, it's a huge deal . . . and NO, 2 DT's that no one has ever heard of, that each show an offer from South Dakota School of the Mines, who need 48 hours of A in every core course under the sun just to get to campus do not count.

i guess i just have to wonder why the staff can't just keep kennard AND get a DT or two. doesn't seem like it should be an either/or thing.

For some reason they have become mutually exclusive to one another.  Not sure why.

Losing Kennard isn't the biggest loss, I mean, we don't throw the ball anyways. No, our problem comes from our offensive scheme. High schools and even junior highs don't just run the ball like they did 10, 20 years ago. The whole football world has become much more 'pro' offense scheme, or spread. If we want to continue to run the offense we are in, we'll have to expect ELITE LEVEL running backs, because no reciever worth a major D1 scholarship will come here. No, this offense, other than in certain game situations, is no longer a threat to win big games.

We don't throw the ball because we didn't have a single D-1 quarterback on the roster this year.  This isn't by design.  This is a compensatory measure for have a coaching staff that can't recruit a QB worth a crap.

You have to treat WRSOAT like you would a jt . . . helmet and harness and all.   So you can't give them to many things to accomplish.

Seriously, as long as the coaching staff gets Sams, I'm fine with this class. It's not that great, but it's much better than I ever though OB 2.0 would assemble.

QFT.  Snyder loves throwing the deep ball.  Loves it.  He loves huge YPC and stretching the defense because it forces the defense to stay honest and off of the LOS so his QB's can have room to run.  Give him 50% completion percentage if YPC is high, and he's as happy as a pig in cac.

Spread with three wide, and that's most likely both corners, a safety manned up on the slot, and a safety in cover 1.  That leaves, at most, seven in the box.  Send a TE in the formation, and all of a sudden, poof goes a linebacker.  Six in the box.  Now, you have five linemen, one QB that can run, and a running back.  You have a +1 advantage to run the football.

Or, even if you only go two wide and add a fullback, having the threat to toss the deep ball still commits a safety in cover one.  If you still send the TE on a pattern, the linebacker goes, and now you have a fullback on a safety, and there's a still +1 advantage running the ball.

The problem this year is that Coffman had a weak arm, so there was no deep ball threat.  He was also not a +1 threat to run the ball, so you could basically man up corners, use both safeties for run support, and you're still, as a defense, employing a numbers advantage between the tackles.  It also didn't help that these receivers are not burners; they're possession guys with YAC skills.

Tuggle, while probably not Cam Newton, has a decent arm that can throw a deep ball, and he can run.  We can run the traditional Snyder offense that he had when Beasley and Roberson were here.  Kennard would have given us the deep ball threat because that's his specialty.  Not having him takes away a really subtle, but important, component in making this a "true" Snyder offense.

This may have helped start it

Yeah, game breaking wide receivers in the prototypical NFL mold are a dime a dozen.  We're better off using the schollie on another fringe D1 JUCO DT.

This was the powerespect rationalization - I was just just repeating it.  Sorry for the confusion.

Looks like K-State has basically given up on Tuggle ever being good enough to get on the field for us.  Not surprised.

Quote
The City College of San Francisco football program seems to churn out one DI quarterback after another these days and this season is no exception. The Rams' signal-caller is rated the No. 3 JUCO quarterback in the nation by JCGridiron.com and has a Big 12 offer heading into the national title game on Saturday.

Jantz has combined for 30 touchdowns passing and rushing in 2010
San Francisco quarterback Steele Jantz will show off his stuff on Saturday in the California state title game at Mt. San Antonio College and then he will get down to business of figuring out his future. Jantz received an offer from Iowa State last week and then immediately visited the Cyclones.

"I received an offer from Iowa State a week ago," Jantz said. "I went there last weekend."

Jantz is 6-foot-3, 205 pounds and fast, with a reported 40-time in the 4.5's. He graduated from Nevada Union High School (Calif.) in 2008 and went un-recruited due to an injury.

"I broke my leg my senior year," Jantz said.

Jantz then walked on at Hawaii in 2008, where he redshirted before heading to CCSF in 2009. After watching Darius Bell play at a high level for a season, Jantz then took over the reigns of the offense in 2010, guiding San Francisco to a 11-0 season heading into Saturday's game. He says he is waiting until after Saturday to concentrate on recruiting.

"My focus is 100% on the game this week," Jantz said. "I am waiting until after the game to make any decisions."

In addition to Iowa State, a handful of other programs have shown interest in recent weeks.

"I have talked to Kansas State, Louisiana Tech, UTEP and San Jose State," Jantz said. "They are all telling me they need a quarterback and they want me."

Jantz has thrown for 2,851 yards and 23 touchdowns through 11 games so far this season, but is equally talented at running the ball. He is second on the team with 613 yards rushing and leads the team with 14 rushing touchdowns.

Jantz is rated the No. 3 JUCO quarterback in the nation by JCGridiron.com. He can leave later this month with two years remaining eligibility.

If we throw enough quarterbacks at our coaching staff, one of them has to turn out decent, right?

Here's video of Jantz.  Also, bring them both in and move Lamur and Klien over to WR (again).

yeah; see "Picketts Charge" circa July 1863 to see how this strategy works.

I would cut Lamur and move Klein to WR.

The plan should be to jetison Tuggle.  Grumblings that the staff has serious buyers remorse and it's just the not wanting to piss off Blinn that has kept us from doing it already.

it's not like we are short on schollies right? just bring his ass in, if he's shitty, oh well. If he actually gets his crap together, great.

Tell him we're moving him to WR.

Or, better yet, say, "Oh, him?  Uh, don't worry about him.  We're eventually going to move him to defense."

What changed in their minds about Tuggle? Did he get even suckier than he was?? Just a panic scholarship offer by our part?
