Ventura starting tomorrow in place of Duffy!  Mixed emotions!

 :horrorsurprise:

Duffy has to be battling something.  Just doesn't make sense to skip him in the rotation then replace him with Ventura.

That said, I'm excited to see what Ventura can do.  Welcome to the big leagues rook... no pressure.

Elbow tightness.  They say it's precautionary but I'd be surprised if we saw him pitch again this year.

Attaboy LoCain
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

yeah.  pretty much have to assume they're going to need to get the sweep.

It would certainly be nice.  Can't count on Houston, Chicago or Minnie.

Really, really excited.  His strikeout numbers are great, 3 to 1 K/BB ratio, but his ERA has never been all that.  A lot of scouts say he passes the eye test better than his stats would show.  If he can stay ahead of hitters with his fastball then he is going to be nasty tomorrow.  He's a consistent high 90s guy.

just get 4-5 good innings and turn it over to the bullpen.

i don't understand why they used hoch tonight.  seems like you'd want him ready for multiple innings tomorrow if need be.  and even if it's just one, it'll be his third night in a row.

i really don't know anything about baseball or baseball strategy.  if it's so much easier to be a reliever rather than a starter (as hoch, davis, etc seem to indicate), is there a good reason why teams don't just plan on running 5-6 guys out there for 2-3 each for important september games instead of their 4th and 5th (or at least just 5th) starters?  i realize most teams don't have 10 good relief pitchers, but i mean for teams like the royals, why not?  davis, smith, collins, herrera (7 combined), hoch (1), holland (1).  wouldn't you take your chances with that?  and you'd still have guys to use in the next game.

Sys has a great point. I also questioned bringing Luke in tonight, with a 6-run lead and a bunch of decent arms in the pen (especially with the expanded roster). The move worked as expected, but Luke may not be available tomorrow night...and he's been a monster out of the pen, better than the other arms who probably should have been put in tonight with a big lead.

The problem with that is that you lose the ability to use those relievers in the games on either side. What if the game before you need 5 innings of relief and the game after it goes 14? No way it could work consistently. But in September? With the Royals pen? I'd be down with it. However the last thing the Royals did that was innovative was the Kauffman baseball academy

Yeah, I didn't like bringing Hoch out.  Seems like it would have been a perfect chance to throw Mendoza, Joseph, etc.
