On the Shields trade, this trade will probably go down as one of the worst in Royals history. Wade Davis is awful overall, Shields is good, but we have him for a year and he's at the end of his prime. Wil Myers could've been and likely would have been the power hitter the Royals needed, and if GMDM was worth a damn at drafting and developing pitchers, we would be fine. Glad Hos is finally coming around though.

Dyson 54 at bats .278 .304 .556 slug 10 stolen Bases 11 runs, 9 RBIs

I agree that we have a long way to go with this trade. I think it was a good trade but it probably requires another good trade to make the playoff team that we need.

Agree it is a small sample size but once Myers hit the Grand slam, a lot of fans were wanting to say this was the worst deal in royals history

I am trying to kill two birds with one stone here. Dyson should be playing more until he proves he sucks. The Shields trade is still good as long as we make a playoff push and make another trade if necessary (i think it is).

Dyson hasn't really proven he can't play in the big leagues. He has scored 82 runs in 447 at bats largely due to 60 stolen bases. Moustakas has scored 113 runs in 1133 at bats.

Dyson has been a better big leaguer than Moose. We could move Gordon to third and then play Cain, Dyson and Lough all the time. That might get us in the playoffs without an extra trade.

At this point I'm leaning towards Dyson on center and Lough is right. Cain can play any outfield spot and give dudes a day off and be a nice bat of the bench. (Though Cain is one of our few power dudes...)

I know you're right, he'll be looking for a fat long term deal and unless he really loves KC BBQ, the royals chances are pretty bad.

The Royals are in a bad spot because they're close enough to not want to let anybody go midseason, and probably not close enough to be serious buyers. I guess we can hope for some magic during July.

If the Royals aren't playing meaningful games at the end of the year, they don't sign Shields, and Myers has a good/great career, it will obviously be looked at as a bad trade. Maybe a really bad trade. I just have a hard time faulting them too much when they filled a need with a great player in a year that they thought we could be in contention. With Glass as the owner, the options of doing better than that are slim unfortunately.

Yeah, that's why I said probably will be. Shields isn't getting younger and only has a year on his contract, and with the run support he usually gets, ugh. It isn't now, but it very well could be looked upon as a horrible trade.

I am pleased with Hosmer's progress, though. I do think it was a bad trade, this was a stab for Dayton at keeping his job, which he will likely do as we will be in contention, but be out of reach which is likely. This will give the illusion that the Royals are close to turning the corner, but won't do it. GMDM will be GM for like 5 more years and not get us anywhere, sound familiar, anyone?

Dayton Moore is terrible. I just think that getting Shields was probably a good move and probably his best move so far.

1. Greinke turned into Shields

2. Finding Salvador Perez

3. Drafting Holland

4. Sanchez into Guthrie

5. Hiring George Brett

Worst Dayton Moves

1. Wasting 4 million on Hoechevar for this year

2. Hiring Yost (Milwaukee fired him during a playoff run)

3. Still not realizing Yost is part of the problem (See lineups every day)

4. Not taking advantage of our bullpen with trades and long term deals. He doesn't have the bullpen locked in at all. (argument for must win this year).

5. Francouer, Getz, Moose, Davies, Hoechevar etc. All guys that we wait way too long to send down/release. I still have some hope for Moose but you can't let a project ruing your teams chances of winning now.

Andrew, if anything you are being too easy on him. You neglected to include anything about the disastrous drafts that DM has presided over. As far as George Brett being a +? Well, they Royals offense is still terrible. I don't blame George, but I just don't think the numbers are there.

As far as blame GM things I think the Getz/Giovatella mismanagement has been pretty terrible as well, which I know you mentioned but it stands out as a situation where not only was the MLB player awful, there was clearly a better replacement available.

Those are all awful and really just show that the poor trades have a lot more to do with ownership than the GM. Nobody is ever going to make a fair offer for a stud in the final year of his contract playing for the Royals because they know that the Royals are simply unwilling to pay their players what they are worth, and they will take a bad deal over no deal at all.

Would just like to point out again how terrible Cain has been lately. Now that Getz and Frenchy have both been sent down, LC seems to be the biggest problem (albeit not nearly the problem the other two were). With the way Lough has played and the potential Dyson shows in his limited opportunities, Ned needs to have them both out there more.

The Royals have a team option on Shields for $12M in 2014, so it's not like they have to worry about him leaving for free agency after this year. Given his production this year that price is a bargain...

there is little reason to believe that the offense will suddenly become playoff caliber next season. assuming they don't, the royals will again be out of contention at the AS break and Shields will be dealt for prospects. thus - the "one year" i referenced above.. this is it. this year is dayton's shot at winning ballgames, of challenging for the division, of making a bid for the playoffs. and the royals are below .500 with the AS game looming in 2 weeks.

it's sad.

but kudo's to dayton for finally dfa'ing frenchy 2.5 years after he shouldn't have signed him in the first place and 1.5 years after extending his contract, giving him 14 million dollars to be the worst damn player anybody has ever seen and then call him a "winner" as he tearfully says goodbye ala the trey hillman farewell press confy debacle.
