maybe depends how man "ducks on the pond" you have?

If your would-be thunder dunk home run ends up being a can of corn, is that more like whiffing a three pointer or bricking a dunk attempt?

Not gonna lie guyz, i'm pretty jacked they made this move.

Yeah it sucks we gave up a potential future stud in meyers but think about it this way...We turned grienke into a young stud SS locked up for 5 years and a key peice that gave us a solid 2 starter for 2 years and a good 3/4 starter for 3 years.

The rotation is looking pretty good with Shields/santana/guthrie/davis/chen. Throw hoch in the pen for long relief and get paulino/duffy/mendoza back toward the end of this year or next year... We are solid on pitching for the next 3 years.

In summary I'm finally excited to get out to the K this year. I might double up on games and go to 10!!!

This is a good post explaining positive reactions to the trade.  Another thing to consider is that we have no idea what winning will do to the ballclub beginning in 2015 or 2016.  Of course they actually have to win for it to happen.  What changes in the types of moves made, changes in the perception of the club as a FA destination.  KC may be in a much better position to sign/ retain FAs in a couple of years should they win a lot of games in 2013 and 2014.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Here's why Royals fans are upset. Our farm system security blanket is gone. We have sucked the last few years but at least would could say "just wait until ____ gets to the big leagues."  Now we don't have that anymore. We have to win now. And this move should help us win now. But most Royals fans are so comfortable with their farm system security blanket that they would rather have it than make moves that put the pressure on to compete now.

Great post, but do you actually think the farm system is trash now, or is that your perception of fan reaction?  I would wager it is the latter.

Jason Stark on Petro: "You could argue besides Denis Leonard and Zach Greinke that this is the best Royals pitcher ever."

 :horrorsurprise:

This is where he came up with that:

Quote
In the history of the Royals, I count 199 different pitchers who have started at least one game. And, according to the brand new 2013 edition of Lee Sinins' fabulous Complete Baseball Encyclopedia, you know how many 15-win, 200-whiff seasons those 199 starting pitchers have had COMBINED?

Shields
That would be two -- one by Zack Greinke in 2009, the other by Dennis Leonard in 1977. And that's it. So Shields has had as many seasons like that by himself in the last two seasons as all those Royals pitchers have had in the last 44 seasons. Unreal.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/blog/_/name/stark_jayson/id/8732962/everything-more-know-rays-royals-trade

Of course, anyone could point to 3 Cy Young seasons (Sabes in 85 and 89, Cone in a strike shortened 94) and tell you that we've had some pretty good pitching outside of just Greinke and Leonard.

Cone's 94 season, at the front end of the steroid juiced up ball era is really freakin' good.  2.44 Strikeout/Walk ratio, 1.072 WHIP (career low), 4 complete games, 3 shutouts, etc.

Yeah, just basing that on WINS and STRIKEOUTS is beyond Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!), imo. WGAF about a pitcher's W/L ratio or his SO #s? Retards I guess.

After this trade, anything less than a playoff appearance would be hard for me to consider a success.
