Time will tell, I suppose. Gave up a lot for a guy who has never won 20 games at any pro level. Let's hope he's not another Hochevar.

lots of lbbiq in this thread.  if you want to sit around for another few years while prospects like myers and odirizzi hopefully "pan out" while other players are getting older and more expensive (butler, gordon, escobar) then go ahead.  But not me, the royals needed to make a move, it's impossible to tell if its a good one, but I'm just glad they did something bold.

This. I hate tha everyone is bitching so much about this trade. Yeah it sucks we traded our two best prospects but only time will tell if this was a good trade.

Also, have you looked at Escobar's contract?  He's ours for years.

And this isn't bold.  Its desperate.  Bold is signing Sanchez.  Bold is eating Frenchy's contract.  Bold is *gasp* developing an organizational philosophy which values OBP or quits over valuing character.  This is desperate.  Desperate to win right now.

In 2013, Shields is absolutely more valuable than Myers, only someone completely uniformed would say different.  But with Sanchez out there, and the most talented player the system has seen since Beltran is finally ready, and we go and do this.  Its desperate.

I'm not looking for one cheap wildcard game.  I'm looking for multiple division titles.  This isn't going to get us there.

anyone defending this trade has lost the ability to honestly assess pretty much anything and everything under the sun

Of course only time will tell.  That's how trades work.

We're predicting what we think will happen and are giving our opinions on the deal.  That's how message boards work.

http://www.kansascity.com/2012/12/10/3958114/this-trade-is-a-reach-for-moore.html

Quote
In the coming days, the Royals will sell this as an aid to their young players, and there is some truth in that. This trade makes them better in 2013, and it’s fair to assume that winning now will make Salvador Perez and Alcides Escobar and Mike Moustakas and Eric Hosmer and the rest of the Royals’ core better.

But what Moore has effectively done is sacrifice 2015 and beyond — when, presumably, the aforementioned guys will be in their prime — for 2013 and 2014.

Quote
Their fans’ skepticism is well-earned.

So excuse me Powercat Pat, Bones, Sabi, and anyone else who is taking a "wait and see" approach to all this.  I'm going to go ahead and assume the Royals screwed this up, just like they have everything for the past 27 years.  If I'm wrong, I'll buy you all the beers you want at the World Series.

But I'm not wrong.  This is a trainwreck.  Myers is Ryan Braun, mark it down.

I can just picture you guys tucking in your vintage #5 jerseys up to your tits while simultaneously posting this crap.

If this was a trade for Dickey I might not have this sick feeling in my gut... I think James Shields is good. I don't think he's worth this.

i don't understand how a royals fan has the ability to melt down.  you are some resilient sob's.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

You have to get pitching. This was the right move.

I mean look, Escobar is up, Hosmer is up, Moustakas is up, Perez is up, Cain is up, Giovotella is up, and we still suck balls. Why? Because we have no starting pitching.  Do all teams fall in love with unproven prospects this bad or is it just dumbass royals fans?

Shields is much better than I thought the Royals would be able to get for an unproven prospect like Myers. Still, they just traded away a future all star that they would have on the roster for 6 years for 2 years of Shields. They had better win now, or this is a terrible trade.

Obviously, any sane person would feel this way. I can't believe that anyone would be upset about being good in 2013 and 2014 because it meant we might not be as good in 2015 and beyond.

Do Royals fans deserve better than this?

Every dollar Royals fans spend at the K is vote of confidence in the way that this team is owned.

It's futile.  It's completely hopeless.  It will never get any better.  This is as good as it gets....hoping that if every single thing goes our way, we might, MIGHT have a shot at making the playoffs.

When a professional sports team publicly sets goals such as merely "breaking .500," it's time to move on.

I very, very reluctantly "support" the trade because instead of a having zero hope, I now have an ounce of hope, if only for a year or two.  But, I am used to the Royals being the worst professional sports franchise in the history of professional sport, so my bar is not terribly high.

This was a good trade. Why are people upset about this? Do you guys not realize that the main reason to have good prospects is so that you can trade them for proven commodities?

To that point, we do have to consider this:

I'll say this for the Royals: no one's blaming David Glass today. Payroll's around $80 million. This is all on Dayton Moore, good or bad.

I hate David Glass, but the payroll is now at a number that we have longed for.

Not gonna lie guyz, i'm pretty jacked they made this move.

Yeah it sucks we gave up a potential future stud in meyers but think about it this way...We turned grienke into a young stud SS locked up for 5 years and a key peice that gave us a solid 2 starter for 2 years and a good 3/4 starter for 3 years.

The rotation is looking pretty good with Shields/santana/guthrie/davis/chen. Throw hoch in the pen for long relief and get paulino/duffy/mendoza back toward the end of this year or next year... We are solid on pitching for the next 3 years.

In summary I'm finally excited to get out to the K this year. I might double up on games and go to 10!!!

If the Royals are actually good in 2013 and 2014, I agree with you. I'm just not sure this trade makes them any better than mediocre.
