Coming into today....
Maurer had pitched in 4 of 6 days (56 pitches)
Minor had pitched in 4 of 6 days (70 pitches)
Alexander had pitched in 5 of 7 days (54 pitches)
Moylan had pitched in 2 straight games

The top 3 should have only pitched in emergency use.
Buchter had not pitched in 6 days.
McCarthy had only pitched 1 of 6 days.
Both of these guys should have pitched the 7th-8th-9th. ( Today they gave up 0 hits 2BB in 2.0)

1) Buchter has now given up 4 hits 4 walks 2 ER in his last 10 Appearances (10.1 inn)
2) Since July 1, McCarthy has had 1 bad outing (4 ER in 12-0 blowout). His other 16 Appearances, he has allowed 2 ER in 20.0 Inn

Part of the issue, or part of the problem is the rest of your Pen arms (even with call ups) are Skoglund Garcia Machado and a guy who obviously isn't right (Cahill)

So until Soria gets back and Herrera gets healthy....Ned has to not wear out Minor Alexander Maurer & Moylan. He needs to trust Buchter/McCarthy more, especially when the others need rest.

It almost cost us a win today. Maurer had been throwing better and with some confidence.
In his last 6 Appearances, he allowed a 2-21 with 3 BB stat line.
He was fatigued today and never been in the game.

So yes....

Last 10 Appearances, hitters are 4-35 with 4 BB vs Buchter (10.1 inn)
Last 6 Appearances before today, hitters were 2-21 with 3 BB vs Maurer (confidence builder 4 him)
Last 13 appearances, hitters are 4-32, 3 BB and 0 ER vs Alexander (9.2 Inn)
Last 7 appearances, hitters are 4-29, 2 BB 2 ER vs Minor (8.1 inn)
Last 9 appearances, hitters are 1-25, 3 BB 0 ER vs Moylan (8.2 Inn)

All 5 of those guys had done well of late. Just never should have thrown Maurer in the 9th. #OverUsed

Show me the 18 W's we get to finish the season. I'm just putting us down for 4 losses against Cleveland so it's out of 22 possible which as I'm writing this just told me everything I need to know.

11 left vs the CWS/DET turd combo and 4 at home vs MIN. Very doable.

We will know by about 4pm on Sunday how realistic this is.
