Which is worse; our bullpen or our offense? Its hard to choose between the two.

Orlando is proving he's not an everyday level MLB player

.125/.192/.317 is kind of bad, but sample size I suppose.

I mean, Paulo is hitting better than Moss, so he's got that.

Oh yeah, is it bad when your DH is .050/.240/.200?

I know.

But 23 runs & walks in 26 innings is amazingly bad bullpen pitching. I know we are spoiled or whatever, but by any standard that is pathetic.

But yeah, by any standard our hitting and offense is also pathetic.

at least by any standards LoCain's smile after he beats out an infield single is still top of the charts.

The worst part about this is we've done an awful job of backfilling for the "departure". ZERO prospects in the top 100, in any publication.

I've already shifted my focus to the development of Mondesi and Soler this season.

Trade Hos, Cain, Moose, Vargas, anyone else on an expiring contract. Get highest upside available, regardless of age. Draft in the top 10 for 2-3 seasons. Throw your payrolls savings on international free agents. Take your lumps, win another world series. Profit?

I'm sure we'll have a huge sale in July if this continues. We have plenty of pieces to trade.

I still (mostly) trust Dayton. I appreciated that they spent money and still wanted to try to win this year.

I think there is a very real chance we don't trade anyone and just take our draft pick compensation. Everything I've read from Dayton says they very much value wins. Bottoming out doesn't seem to be a part of his DNA.

Also, those dudes need to produce this year if they're getting the $50m+ contract required to get the compensation.

If that is their preference hopefully the 2018 draft class is loaded.

no way. if we're 15 games out in July we will trade at least 2, maybe 3 of Vargas, Escobar, Moose, Hosmer, Cain, possibly Cuthbert. Also we might try and trade Colon for a small diet coke with no ice.

I agree. Dayton is no Billy Beane, but I think he'll reach a point where he knows they need talent for the future. The best way to bring it in now is trading some pieces.

What can we realistically expect in return for a half season of the above listed players?  I'm not very optimistic.

not only that, but with the new CBA they've devalued pick compensation with departing free agents, and makes it tougher and raised the bar needed to get those picks.

good point about the CBA SWC.

In terms of value, that's hard to say right now, but I don't see a haul like the one we gave up for Cueto coming our way. I don't know what contender will be looking to add Hosmer. Better hope for some injuries to Rizzo or Pujols or Lucas Duda or something. Cain can play any outfield spot, so IMO he has the most value.
