i think you could take the chance for one year. he'll probably turn it down to get a two or three year for more total money and then you get the pick. if he takes it, you overpay, but just for one year and it's basically the only year left of maybe being good, so it's a good year to overpay.

Duffy, last 14 starts......Had 1 bad outing giving up 7 ER. The other 13 starts, he has a 2.44 ERA
Kennedy, last 15 starts....Had 1 bad outing giving up 7 ER. Other 14 starts, he has a 2.56 ERA
Ventura, last 12 starts.... has a 3.10 ERA.

2 forgettable starts. The other 39 have a 2.68 ERA.
