really, some of you need to quit bringing a college football mentality to baseball games.

Says the guy who wanted to trade for cueto when we were in first place by a mile.  You sound like a huge dumb eff.

nothing that happened yet, or will happen before October 8th, has any impact on how this trade will be viewed by me. I'm concerned, much more with each start.

Yes I did. I did want Johnny Cueto on this team. And I still do.

do some of you pee brains realize that when we traded for him:

1. Ventura was erratic, and had been sent down for an hour or whatever
2. Guthrie's ERA was by month: 5.87, 7.46, 4.24, 5.58,
3. Vargas's elbow went boom
4. Medlen hadn't made a start
5. Duffy had been injured, and erratic at best.
6. Chris Young was coming off a 3 inning, 4 run game, and had been remarkable average to below average since his start @mil in mid june
7. Volquez was our ace, and no one was close.
8. Joe freaking blanton had made 4 starts on the year.

Maybe Cueto will lose playoff games and we won't win the World Series. Without him we wouldn't either. I'll take my chances with Johnny.

Heard on 810 today opposing batters are hitting better than .500 of Cueto's cutter since he's been in KC.  I don't really care what Ned says, there is something wrong with the dude. He's been too consistent for too long to be so bad four straight starts.

there was an article about how the problem was the cutter posted before too.  to me, that's evidence that it isn't a health issue.  if it was an injury, you'd expect to see problems across the board, not just with one pitch.

the fact that it's one pitch, to me, seems encouraging.  he's got a month to fix the pitch.  and if he can't, then just don't throw that pitch in an important game.  he's got plenty of pitches, he can get by without the cutter.

cf3's had a bit of a pee epidemic on his hands lately, so you'll have to forgive him.

Oh man. Not sure if I'm allowed to post this but

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

23 starts vs. 3 starts.  good comparison.

I tell you what I'd much rather be Toronto right now and be hot in September....that always pays off in October.  Teams stay hot for months almost always.

Totally agree, Phil. I don't mind Ned giving so many guys days off right now, but we better have the starters in the last ~15 games of the season. They'll have 3 off days between the final day of the season and the ALDS to rest.

Before we go any further, we should point out that a good chunk of Cueto's bad streak can be explained by rotten luck. That's being mostly overlooked, but it's true. With the help of the awesome FanGraphs, we can see that Cueto is giving up way more base hits on balls in play without a discernible spike in the quality of contact.

He is giving up hard contact at the same or lower rate than normal in his last four starts, but is giving up nearly twice as many base hits on that contact. Without any other adjustments, we could fairly expect an improvement in results from nothing more than rotten luck evening out.
